Experience the creative components this building offers. Not many city halls can claim to include contemporary art, but Seoul City Hall is a reflection of what this metropolis wants to portray to the world. Painting itself as a forward-thinking city, Seoul has a principal government building that stands out. Its tinted glass exterior is modeled on the rooflines of traditional Korean homes. Stand in front of the building and you may think it’s an art gallery. Notice the older traditional building that was previously the original city hall, but is now the Seoul Metropolitan Library. The newer eco-friendly building was completed in 2012 and was designed to be a place for welcoming citizens as well as conducting municipal affairs. Inside the building are 70,000 plants from 14 species on a 7-story wall about the size of a soccer field. Seoul City Hall has the claim in the *Guinness Book of World Records* as having the world’s largest vertical garden. A towering creation of white forms, titled *Meta Epic: SeoBeol*, represents Seoul’s history over 2,000 years as interpreted by Korean artist Jeon Su-cheon. During construction of the building, a military weapons depot from the Joseon Dynasty was unearthed. View the ancient armaments in the Gungisi Relics Exhibition Hall. (558 reviews) Perfect place to stay! Convenient, right smack dab in the Myeongdong Street Market and nearby Myeongdong Station exits 5,6&7\. There’s an elevator and each guest floor has a microwave, sink, tea, coffee, dinnerware, iron/board, trash bins and all the fresh towels to refill your own room. In the room there’s a hairdryer, tv, phone, air conditioner, beverage cooler, bidet, hangers & hooks. 3rd floor Landry room- the detergent is added with your credit card payment. There’s a 6th floor rooftop which was inaccessible during our stay(November 22-30). You must clarify if you want your sheets changed & room cleaned on the 3rd day of your stay. It’s only free if you stay more than 5 days. The staff does empty your trash & take out your old towels daily. The Korean staff at the entrance kiosk check in & checkout and on the hotel phone were all very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. The Japanese cleaning staff were indifferent & useless if you need help. They literally just stare at you, annoyed that you tried to speak to them. In the end, no frills hotel but it covers all the basics a traveler from abroad needs during their visit. The price was very competitive. I got lucky I chose this place. I would recommend Hotel Myeongdongjang to everyone who wants to stay in Seoul.
