Super easy, quiet and superb hospitality. Breakfast is great

Absolutely amazing apart from the banging kitchen door under our bedroom when they started preparing breakfast at 7am.

The lodge is in a nice area. The room is a tidy average room with no bar fridge. Largely they seem to cater for functions and conferences. The breakfast is good value. It is attached to a golf club. I messaged to try to book a golf tee time both via the booking agent VRBO and email direct to pro-shop. I got no response to either but on arrival they told me a time had been booked. Perhaps they assumed a golf booking would email me automatically but that didn’t appear to work for international visitors.

The only thing we found there wasn’t enough milk in the room but it was lovely and clean and the staff are very helpful

We always try to stay at the Hickstead because we like this hotel but on this occasion we found the bed to be most uncomfortable and it really needs replacing. One half of the bed was higher than the other half as the feet are missing. Also the mattress felt worn out. The valance around the base of the bed was torn and gave a feeling of neglect. The staff are usually very helpful but on this occasion when we dropped our case off earlier in the day this was not placed in our room for when we arrived later in the evening . The receptionist seemed to infer it was our fault as we had not asked for it to be done. I thought it would be done automatically !!!
