Cozy Cabin at Little River Canyon

The Refuge is a luxurious cabin with 3 bedrooms (each with a queen sized bed), 2 full bathrooms, and an extra large living room with beautiful bay windows and cozy fireplace. There are also 2 porches to relax on, a grill, and fire pit, a good sized yard, and it sits just off of Little River Canyon. Other amenities include a full kitchen, washer and dryer, satellite tv, and high speed internet/wifi.

Israel was very gracious and kind. The cabin is clean, spacious, comfortable, and private. A nice place to stay to enable us to hike, to drive to Collinsville, Ft Payne, and to eat at Woody's in Dogtown.

We enjoyed peace and quiet in this home. You feel secluded when you're in the cabin but close drive to things to do. We had a visit each evening from a bunny in the back yard. The cabin was clean and well stocked. We did have some minor issues with the TV, but the owner took care of it without us even asking This place might be especially good if you like adventure sports such as rock climbing. The owner has a place close by that you can book active adventures. This place has something for everyone.

Secluded

Property well kept, The area where the beautiful home is located, please be prepared to climb mountains after mountains so hopefully your in a vehicle thats able to make it up these high mountains, there's no turning around in the middle of the road or you just might fall over a cliff.. At night please have someone with you at all times because finding your way back is a hell of an adventure in the pitch black Dark.... Good Luck!!!

Beautiful cabin, great location

We had a great time at the cozy cabin at Little River Canyon. Everything was very clean, and it had everything we needed. Also, the location was great for what we wanted to see, near Little River Canyon National Preserve, Desoto State Park, and Cherokee Rock village.

The house was very clean and check in was easy,it was nice and peaceful weekend,my only complaint is we wanted to cook breakfast and the bottom of the oven wouldn't work on bake only on broil..other than that it was a great stay

Vacation

We really enjoyed staying at the Refuge. Very quiet and beautiful scenery. Close to Desoto State Park and Little River Canyon. We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return one day.

Peaceful Getaway

Our family enjoyed spending time at The Refuge over the Thanksgiving holiday. The location was great, away from town. The house was very clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We hope to return again in the future.

Perfect place for the holidays!

We rented the property over the Christmas holiday, and we couldn't have been happier with it! The cabin is lovely and cozy, with everything you need for a relaxing vacation, and the scenery is gorgeous. There are two overlooks an easy walk away that show the valley, and staying in the cabin felt like living in a tree house. It was warm, welcoming, and exactly what we needed! Will definitely rent again.

Beautiful, quiet and secluded home, enjoyable weekend

We enjoyed our stay so much. The cabin was great - it was a in beautiful setting, clean and a overall wonderful place to stay. The property manager was very friendly and answered many questions on great trails and fun things to do. We enjoyed being so close to the outdoor trails and views along the Little River Canyon. The only drawback we experienced was the WiFi. The ad stated free WiFi, but when we arrived we were instructed we could not stream and internet usage is limited to 1G per day. Streaming was not an issue for us but I needed to work remotely via VPN for 6-8 hours during our 4 day stay. The internet service was intermittent at best and was inaccessible most of the time. 1G per day was not even possible. To complete my work we ended up sitting in a McDonald’s parking lot in Fort Payne to get free WiFi and I worked in the car. When we made reservations, I expected to work in the comfort of the cabin but that was not the case for most my work time. We attempted to use our phone’s hotspot as an alternative, but becaue of the remote location that didn’t work either. When the internet did work it only accommodated one device at a time. I suggest a better internet package for this cabin and until then, I recommend an adjustment to the property ad to reflect the WiFi limitations. Other recommendations - add a movie package to the TV/dish service or update the property ad to recommend bringing dvds. Also inform renters - to enjoy a fire in the wood burning fireplace during their stay, they will need to find or purchase firewood. Thank you for sharing your cabin and property! I have already recommended this property to others and would definitely stay again.

Beautiful

Loved our stay. The house is beautiful and very clean. I'm 72 with double knee replacement and there are LOTS of steps to the door. No handicap ramp at this time. The hosts were very nice.

Improvement Needed

Little River Canyon is great, this "cabin" is not. First, let's start with loose directions that got my parents lost for an hour. "Up to the end of the road and left" should describe a precise location and not a highway you can go left or right on for hours. Next, the grass wasn't cut (it was ankle to knee high) and it was full of chiggers. This obstacle was placed between my kids and their only fun outlet at the house, a tree swing. Internet wasn't working when we got there and the owners came out and fixed the next day. Yes, it's a cabin for outdoor adventure, but when you're planning what to do for the day with no cell service or internet it can be problematic. Finally, their "Rules and Regulations" which are not on the VRBO listing but are in print when you arrive. Some notable highlights are: No Alcohol (laughable); No coolers or liquids on "wood floors" (they're not wood, they're laminate and buckle with moisture); internet is metered and limited to 1gb per day "do not stream video;" "rental rate is based on normal power usage. Do not turn A/C below 70 ... [nor] heat above 75. You will be charged an abuse fee if you do." (insane to even state this); "trash costs us per pound, please be respectful and limit trash." There are more rules but I'm annoyed to type this nonsense. Also, the beds were terrible as you can feel each individual spring. Bottom line, it would appear these folks are operating on slim margins and passing that burden on to the people who travel out here to vacation. I've rented my own property, and it's frustrating to see someone think they can dictate your every move in a place you've rented for vacation. It literally put a damper on our whole trip, 4 adults and two kids, to not have a place to rest peacefully after a day hiking the canyon and on the river. I hope they take this review as constructive criticism and not a personal attack. They were nice but I would not recommend this place to anyone until they resolve to do better and implement change.
