A good 2 star hotel but not for light sleepers
We don’t usually write mehhh reviews…. But it was a struggle stay. Montes Hotel is located in a great location. Our room was a large suite, clean, with a modern bathroom, comfy bed and large bathtub in a 2-star hotel - the room just located behind the main floor/reception desk and above the shopping stores below. However and overall, really loud (even with ear plugs) from evening to morning and blasting heat (aka we had to open the balcony doors for fresh air which caused more disrupted sleep from the noise). The outside constant noise of singing pilgrims, screaming parents, group tours, bachelor parties, cathedral bells every 15 min round the clock, and the hot-sweltering heat of the room was just too much to justify another stay for our intended 2 nights…. So We left early, sadly. No one at reception for 2 days to discuss. Thankfully the bar waiter below gave us information.

Best not to arrive there after 10 pm particularly if you find it hard to carry luggage up stairs. The street/taxi entrance is unlit. The entrance code didn’t work for me. I was stuck there in total darkness and silence at 11.15 pm.After several tries at code I walked along road and saw light. Another hotel! Reception guy there helped me with code!! (Probably my incompetence with code!) So door was open! Then long flight of stairs before reaching liftarea. Had heavy bag so difficult. Daytime staff and breakfast fine, very good. Just don’t arrive late!!

Perfectly located when you arrive to Santiago to be right in the mix of the energy and camaraderie of the old historic centre. Singing of Pilgrims awoke is through the open window in the morning. But it was lovely. We will definitely stay here again!

strange occurrence
This hotel is nice for the price. The people at the front desk were very helpful and even allowed us to check into the room 2 hours early. The only thing that was very odd to me was that once the housekeeper had been through all the rooms, she left the doors open. Imagine coming back to a floor where every room was open and everyone's things visible.

This hotel's location is walking distance to the church & to a lot of restaurants. The balcony opens up to a small square. Rooms are very clean & eco-friendly. Breakfast is included & very filling. The only downside is if your room is on the 1st floor, the crowd noise at night might bother you. Overall we had a great time.

Perfect location, nice staff, good room
One block from the cathedral; in the old section of town but also very close to the more modern shopping areas. Very nice room and friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Did not Camino de Santiago
Park at San Clemente if driving; less than 10 minute walk; and discount with hotel. Very central and close to wine bar, restaurants, Cathedral and whatever else. WiFi was weak in some areas.

Great hotel very central location
We all had rooms overlooking the square with large French windows, with wonderful views of the city. it’s a square that never sleeps so be prepared for the chatter of the locals going on well into the early hours- however the windows and shutters are effective in blocking out most of the noise. Perfect location, a stones throw from the Cathedral, the staff are lovely- we had an early flight on the morning we left so they made us a lovely picnic breakfast to take with us .

Nice staff but hotel was miserable
AC didn’t work and our rooms had no windows to the outside so no fresh air. It was impossible to sleep it was so hot. If we’d had another place to go to we would have left. It’s too bad because the staff was very nice. When I complained they offered me a small fan. It’s clearly a problem.

Location, location, location. A few hundred meters from the end of the Camino, a few dozen meters from Santiago de Compostella's restaurant Row. Simple but tasty and plentiful breakfast. The accommodations are plain but comfortable.

Centre of Santiago
The hotel was in the very centre of Santiago and a minutes walk from the Cathedral and square, and with at least 150 bars and restaurants close by. The hotel staff were all fantastic, our room (No.102) overlooked the Square, and we would certainly recommend it to friends and plan to return next year. Apparently this was one of the nicest rooms in the hotel - spacious and with a minimalist design. The central location meant that it was noisy at night, but the windows and shutters blocked out most of the noise and and air conditioning was excellent.If you want to be at the very heart of the city this is the hotel for you. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and we plan to return in 2018.

Noisy. If you want a good nights sleep forget it.
very noisy at night. Woken every half hour. On the hour by the cathedral on the half hour by idiots on the street. Really 5 to 6am consisted of people on drugs making a racket.

Very central to the cathedral.
Lovely hotel, clean and simple. Nice breakfast to help yourself to. Was a bit disappointed when I asked if they could open up breakfast 15 minutes earlier (because of our flight time) to be told no and the best they could do is offer coffee in the room at 5E each. The room at the front suffered a bit from noise of revellers in the square till quite late but i believe that there was an event that night. the room at the back was much quieter.

Great location, good price
A great location in the old city (right by the cathedral). Very clean, modern rooms, small but satisfactory for one person. Only complaint was the heat--it was an unexpected heat wave in June, but still the tiny fan (the size of my hand) was not enough, and the window didn't open fully. Also the wi-fi was spotty.

The hotel was clean and the location is nice but I had booked a "city view" room and what I got was a room with only one small window that opened only to a skylight, not even the outside. For the price I paid I was very disappointed. When I asked the staff why I didn't have even a window she explained that this was the "class" of room I booked. I am not sure what that means since even my reservation has "room with city view" clearly written on it. Obviously this is either a problem with how Travelocity advertises the room or how the hotel does. The staff was apologetic but couldn't change the fact that I was pretty much in a closet room.
