My family was impacted by the thousands of flight cancellations and delays across the US due to extreme cold weather and blizzards. This impacted our stay at the hotel. Immediately upon finding out our flight was cancelled, we reached out to Expedia to request to change the date of our hotel stay or refund the stay. Although we booked a refundable room, the hotel was unwilling to help us and charged us the full cost of two rooms. The hotel initially claimed that we reached out to make changes after our stay, which was a blatant lie and I have all communication to prove it. Then after being caught in a lie, they changed their story and wouldn’t help because of their cancellation policy, which didn’t make sense either because we were open to moving the date of the stay to when our flights were rescheduled for. All in all we had a terrible experience with this hotel. Their customer service is awful and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
This is an established old classic hotel in center of San Jose. Very well maintained with original Cristobol Wood finishes throughout. A lot of marble, etc. it is very clean, the staff are super friendly, the parking and room attendants go above and beyond. It located right on Avenida Central amongst the hustle and bustle of SJ. You can walk to Central Mercado (7 blocks). The only negative for us was the restaurant. The food is mediocre at best and the service is EXTREMELY slow. I wanted to tip the server in cash (Colones) so I asked him to break a $10k bill. He returned with $4, 000 and helped himself to $6,000. Claiming that’s all the colones they had. Which was total BS. I didn’t banter, I just didn’t go back. His name was MAYNOR.

The staff was great , and in-house parking excellent, Im a early riser and the cancellation of breakfast buffet replaced by menu was a disappointment, tried to change white bread by rye , was offered by an extra cost. I have stayed at Balmoral earlier. And travel a lot

DO Not hiret The hotel taxi
The stay was good, the bad thing for my safety, I hired a taxi service directly with the hotel, the taxi driver left me in another hotel. fatal error I did not know the place and I was alone when I went to the reception and I showed and reservation number they told me the name of the hotel and it was not my hotel,I trust the taxi driver is supposed to be someone you trust from the hotel but NO. my recommendation use Uber and it is much cheaper and safe
Well me and my family got there thursday it was raining outside so they did not have the room i pay for. The gave me a horrible small room and the add a small bed to make it work cause we have no where else to stay cause it was late and raining my mom is having knee problems so we had to take the small terreble room the front desk guy he lie saying we ganna give u a better room never happend so huge no happy for me and my family🙁
