Upon arriving the property 'felt'good. No bad energy, and the staff was friendly. Since I arrived late in the afternoon, I went to the restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the wait staff friendly and attentive. What I found most surprising is that this restaurant does not accept cash. As cash is legal tender, and I prefer to pay with cash in order to avoid end-of -month bills, this peeved me. It's also a loss for the wait staff as they are less likely to be tipped in cash if I can't break a large bill. That said, the food was good, if overpriced. I was there in order to avoid cooking, cleaning, and to see the sun. I chose Kona Kai because it advertised a restaurant, room service, and spa. What I soon found out is that there was no room service, and because the spa lacked any real description of services offered, I chose not to spend my money there, which is sad because I was more than prepared to do so. The other turn off was the filthy doors in and out of the workout/steamroom spa area. Maybe because I'm in the spa industry I'm a bit more sensitive to such things, but dirty is dirty no matter how you spin it. The gals in this area were super nice, but between the two of them those doors should have been clean. One only gets one chance to make a good first impression. I didn't use these facilities. The room I stayed in was nice enough, but had not been detailed cleaned in a while. AtCheckout there was an additional $5 charge for microwave
