Staithes, with it’s steep, narrow, interconnected lanes, cobbled streets and rows of pretty cottages and rooftops has a distinctive, traditional fishing village atmosphere. For keen walkers, I recommend the coastal walk with magnificent views to nearby Runswick Bay and it’s sweeping beach. Cottage was very comfortable with all the equipment needed for an enjoyable time. It had obviously been recently renovated and was lovely inside and spotlessly clean. However, updates are needed to the instructions for heating, internet and there is no DVD player that we could see. The main disappointment was the bags of rubbish in the outside which detracted a little from our first impressions of the cottage. But overall we had a lovely stay there. The double bed is possibly the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in though - definitely needs a new mattress. With a little court-yard for the day time and a wood-burning stove for the night, it was all perfect. As in all these small cottages the stairs are steep but there is an amusing nautical rope to pull yourself up and down. Walk the cobble streets and winding paths and take in the beauty of the harbour.
