We are so blessed that our cabin, Alpine Escape, survived! Unfortunately the surrounding area suffered significant destruction with many homes & over 30,000 acres destroyed. It is important for our guests to know that the views are not as beautiful as they once were but we know that will improve as time goes by. Alpine Escape is a solemn solitude with only a few other properties left in the immediate area. You'll rarely see a car and the only thing you'll probably hear is a rooster or a turkey in the distance. Deer and elk still stroll by the cabin and the hummingbirds are still the highlight for many of our guests. Perhaps one of the best locations in all of Ruidoso! ALPINE ESCAPE is a private cabin secluded under the pines at 7300 feet elevation in a quiet area north of town. Built in 2004, and perfectly situated on an inviting mountainside, about a mile south of Ski Run Road. One stay at this property is sure to bring you back. The combination of professionally made rustic furniture and mountain decor, added to the Sierra Blanca view, make this one of Ruidoso's best cabins. There is a 600 sq foot redwood deck that wraps around the cabin with 250 feet of covered area for grilling or sitting around the fire table with your favorite people & wine. You'll love the hot tub at night where you will soak in the amazing moon and stars and delight in the complete serenity. The cabin is abundantly stocked with all of the necessities for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is appointed with lots of pots & pans, cooking utensils & daily dishes. There are two coffee makers, a Keurig and Mr. Coffee & the coffee & pods are provided. Blow dryers are available in both bathrooms. There is a full size washer & dryer and detergent is available if you need to wash a few clothes during your stay. Beach towels are provided for the hot tub and there are other towels available for wet pet paws or to dry your wet shoes on. There is a hiking trail just off the deck where you can walk up to the private bench and soak in the view. You may see deer and occasionally an elk or wild turkey. In the Spring and Summer, the hummingbirds will entertain you as you sit on the deck and watch them come to the feeder 5-6 at a time! There is a two car garage and room on the driveway for two additional cars. The cabin is located just minutes from town and Ski Apache. The driveway is steep so please be sure to have snow chains and/or a 4 wheel drive vehicle in case of inclement weather. Ruidoso is such a fun town with boutiques, art galleries, wonderful restaurants & entertainment. Visit in September for the horse races or come in the winter to ski. Hike the national forest all year 'round or go horseback trail riding at one of the two local stables. We welcome your small dogs to join you at the cabin. Maximum weight is 50 lbs. Two dogs are welcome with a $75 non-refundable pet fee per dog. Please email with questions or call. The host was friendly and prompt with communications. We made a note to pay for trip insurance to cover our trip in case the weather showed snow/ice as the road/driveway is very steep. Kitchen appliances were good and stocked with above average cookware. They were kind enough to include two space heaters which we used downstairs. I would not recommend more than 6 people for this property, unless you bring your own air mattress. The foldout couch did not initially have a set of sheets the first night and seems to be breaking - I would not try to sleep adults on it. We were lucky in that we had 2 children, so one slept with us on the King and our other slept on the couch without folding it out.With exception to some dead flies in and around the windows the whole property was in great shape. You can tell that the hosts care deeply about the property and put much work into it. We would surely consider staying here again for our next Ruidoso trip. ##### Eric T. Great deck for relaxing. Overall it worked well for our family of 4 adults. Cons: Steepness of driveway in winter conditions is an issue. (We knew going into the trip). Bedspread in master had stains, carpet was stained, window in kitchen was broken, garbage was left in a bedroom from prior guests, some dishes were dirty. Motion light outside master bedroom goes on and off all night during windy conditions. A curtain would help with that. It is in a nice secluded section of the mountain but it is also a very short drive to town. The deck is amazing, especially if you like to relax with some coffee or wine and watch the hummingbirds. It is a very nice cabin away from everything. Unfortunately, this area has been strongly affected by the fires however it was still beautiful.The property management team is amazing. We were traveling with our dog and much to our surprise, a food and water bowl, with a mat, was already in place.The entire place was wonderful with spectacular views. My husband,dog, and I had a great time!My only suggestion for the property would be possibly it is time to replace the cushions on the patio furniture and the pillows for the upstairs bedroom. ##### Tammy J. Didn't try hot tub so couldn't tell if that was good or not. Beds were comfy and A/C worked well. One compliant - the location of the cabin is where the fire happened so when you look at the picture of the cabin online and see all the beautiful trees that is not what you see when you get to the cabin. All the trees are burnt all the way up the hillside on all sides. So it is very sparse and barren looking. Having said that, we did still see some deer and elk and some even came on to the property, which was nice.
