The nicest place you could stay in

Posted 9-Aug-2016
Pros: Almost everything! The rooms, bikes, food, staff.
Cons: The Tamarind restaurant could be better in terms of food but service is great of course. Also, wish there were less children--they are too loud.
Location: Take a taxi to 5th avenue to buy souvenirs. Check out some cenotes. Go to the beach.
Absolutely loved my experience at this hotel. Everyone is so incredibly overly friendly and helpful. Anything you want, they can get. The rooms are gorgeous and the grounds are awesome. We got a villa that included a serenity pool, but I'll say that the temperature of the pool was kind of cold. This can be fixed, I believe, with a phone call, but we never got around to it. The hotel is quite costly and it costs a lot to do different things. And you'll find that you have to buy a lot through the hotel. The Saffron restaurant is AMAZING. We went twice and it was totally worth it. The Chef is incredible. We also tried out Tamarind, and while I enjoyed the drinks and appetizer, I really didn't care for the entrees. I wouldn't even bother with that restaurant, honestly. In-villa dining is really good though. Also the Sands restaurant is nice to get some appetizers like chips and guac while you hang out on the beach. The beach is LOVELY. Everyone gets a bike so you can just bike to the beach in about 5 min. I loved this place and didn't want to leave. HUGE TIP: DO NOT book excursions or shuttles through expedia - contact Banyan Tree--they can book these things for you and they will be more luxurious and worth the cost (sometimes it's cheaper than expedia too).

Great hotel on an exquisite property

Overall a great experience but wish they had a more extensive kids club. The breakfast buffett has some room for improvement given the high price.

Excellent!! Very private rooms

Posted 28-Jul-2016
I was always looking for privacy but also wanted to have access to drinks and food-- well they bring whatever you want to your villa- we got pitchers of frozen drinks daily and excellent food! There are 132 villas all private with pools-- I can't say enough about the staff- whatever you need- and so friendly!! The rooms are spotless - we just had the standard room and was huge for 2--- but still the staff was the best I ever experienced anywhere-- all of them!!! Can't wait to go back!!!!!!

Amazing hotel with outstanding service

Posted 27-Jul-2016
Pros: Service is oustanding. We also liked the bicycles and Sands restaurant and the service of that team at the beach.
Cons: Include in the bills the notice for the customer to feel free to increase or decrease the tip for the employee to feel more recognized
Location: It's a 10 minute taxi ride from Playa del Carmen. The beach doesn't look very nice with the sand bags but it's a quiet, secure and walkable shore.
Our stay at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba was excellent. I went with my daughter for her 18th birthday. Our villa was a Bliss, number 404, close to the main building. Very nice, with plunge pool, spacious, good Internet, well equipped. They provide everything you may need for a stay at the beach (only need to bring sun block): mosquito spray, beach bag, flip flops. We used the bicycles all the time, the golf carts only when arriving and leaving. We tried all the restaurants. Oriente has a nice breakfast buffet (we chose only the cold option for U$S 35 each), Saffron has good Thai cuisine, Sands is excellent for lunch at the beach, and Tamarind is Italian/international and was the one we liked the less. We also tried Room service which was excellent. Service is impeccable and friendly all over the hotel. We didn't like the beach so much at this location, Mayakoba is carrying out a project to protect the sand from being swallowed by the sea. This means the installation of enormous sand bags along the shore, which ruins the view of the coast. Probably in a couple of years when the project is completed and has served its purpose the improvement will be appreciable. I stayed in 2009 at the Rosewood Mayakoba with my husband, but if returning to this location I'll definitely choose the Banyan Tree...

Best vacation by a wide margin

Posted 2-Jul-2016
Pros: Very private and relaxing. We enjoyed the wild Yucatan Spider Monkey who roamed the facility. The wild life component is just awesome
Cons: The only minor downside is that there are barriers in the surf to protect the extremely fine and white sand bench.
Location: We also did a tour to Tulum with cave swimming with Cancun Adventures. Our guide Daniel was excellent. The cave swimming is terrific.
Our stay at Banyan Tree Mayakoba was the best vacation we have ever had. The private Bliss villas are exactly as pictured on the website. They provide a luxurious and extremely private environment to relax in. As you stay in a mangrove forest crisscrossed by canals the beach is about 15 minutes by foot or less than 5 minutes by the ubiquitous and free golf carts. The restaurants are very high quality and the staff throughout the hotel is extremely helpful and courteous. Present when you need them and invisible when not. We took the dinner boat cruise for two at Banyan Tree and it was extremely romantic and very memorable. The boat cruise and shuttles are great and we saw a lot of wild life from turtles and herons to baby crocodiles. We took a cooking class with Chef Light at Saffron, who is just awesome. He really introduced us to Thai cooking. Chef Light also introduced us to his sister who is the head chef at Tamarind when we dined there and the food and service there was also outstanding. We also booked a Tequila Tasting with Sol. It was very enjoyable and educational. Last but not least, I want to praise Abel Morales at Bayan Tree. He took excellent care of us and was always very helpful, knowledgeable and created a very hospitable atmosphere. I view him as one of the rising stars in the hospitality industry. I am sure I do him injustice by only these few praises. He’ll go far.

Simply beautiful place~~

Posted 8-Jun-2016
Pros: The staff are great, they even offered me a private bicycle lesson within the resort. The Spa is beautiful and the massages are great.
Cons: CONS: the quality of food/dining. Although the breakfasts and Saffron are excellent, the steakhouse was disappointing.
Location: Tullum/caverns is nearby.
The property is beautiful. The service is great. The villas with the private pool and jacuzzi are the perfect combination for a relaxing getaway. It is definitely the Banyan Tree standard. **But they definitely overcharge if you ask to customize a salad/dish. For example: ** They charged $40 for the 1st breakfast buffet, then the second time it was $28 for the same thing. **I asked for a simple green salad with cherry tomato. They charged $16 for a salad with few romaine and few dehydrated arugula and tomatoes. (There was no cheese or anything special) Dressing on the side. **The papaya salad with shell crab at Saffron is delicious and addictive. After eating there 3 times, I asked if they can put more papaya. Of course they did, but at a cost of $30... for a papaya salad. **They provide complimentary 2-3 pieces of fruits per day in room(banana, pear, mango, Red Dli Apple). Which I liked none. But they refused to provide fresh papaya when I asked (they serve that at the buffet daily, and it is probably the cheapest fruit in mexico) I took a taxi $25 r/t) to town to get it. Overall, the resort itself is beautiful, attentive staff, great spa.
