Rhododendron is truly a mountain town with a few outdoor-friendly restaurants, bars, and a grocery store. The nearby towns of Welches, Brightwood, and Government Camp provide more mountainside fun, like lookout points and places to kayak and fish. Day trips are also a great option from here - the Columbia River Gorge is about 30 miles away, with world-famous windsurfing, kite surfing, and stunning views of waterfalls and mountains. The town of Hood River provides several brewery options and plenty of festivals and events year-round. Outside on the deck is a picnic table, patio furniture, and a gas grill where you can whip up a barbecue feast. Down the hill by the river, there's a hammock, firepit, and several swings where the kids can play. This home is outfitted with timber beams and woodsy decorations to create a lodge-like vibe. If you open a window, the river can lull you to sleep. Hot tub was great- even hot when we arrived. Could use more hot pads & kitchen towels. The oven seems to take twice as long as a normal oven. The key to success with the fireplace is to build the fire against the back. Living room couches are fabulous. We had some great hikes- Ramona Falls & Mirror Lake. However, the house left much to be desired. There was septic tank smells in a few places in the house. The animal heads & skins on the walls were way too much. It seemed like they tried to fill the walls and overdid it. This part was the most undesirable. In fact if we had to do this again we would not pick this place. Overall it was clean. Luckily we were only three of us so the space was enough. We did a lot of hiking & outdoor activities so we’re not home too much. The cabin was cute and had everything we needed. If you have equilibrium problems you might have a hard time as the cabin is pretty uneven. The hot tub probably needs to be drained and refilled. It had a lot of debris but was enjoyed none the less. Our biggest issue was the water. It smells horrendous so you are going to want to bring bottled water to drink and expect a smell from the water when you shower. The deck was amazing and we were lucky with some nice weather so we could enjoy that and the BBQ grill. We also enjoyed the fire pit down at the river and the swings were a hit with my kids. Overall we enjoyed our stay. ##### Nicole h. I rented the place for a birthday weekend with friends and we had a great time. The location is fantastic and even though the place is close to the road, it doesn’t feel that way with the river so close. A few pieces of feedback: a real sponge would’ve been nice to do dishes (we were left with only a magic eraser), and the two top bunks need new slats which would make the beds much more comfortable. Also, make sure you check the hot tub right when you arrive, if it can take a while to heat if it needs to be restarted. ##### Elizabeth H. We spent most of our time outside on the deck, in the hot tub, or exploring the river. The sound of the river was incredibly relaxing.
