The wardrobe in our room looked like it was going to fall over at any moment. Breakfast was cold, slow and limited. Most of the safe were really lovely.

It sounds like you encountered several issues during your stay at the hotel. The unstable wardrobe is a safety concern and should be addressed promptly by hotel maintenance to prevent any accidents or inconvenience to guests.Cold, slow, and limited breakfast service is disappointing and doesn't meet the standards expected by guests, especially when paying for accommodation that includes breakfast.Despite these issues, it's positive to hear that most of the staff were lovely. Friendly and attentive staff can help mitigate some of the challenges guests may face during their stay.

Stayed after visiting friends and family as the hotel is perfectly situated close to the motorway (bit not noisy). Check in easy and room was a good size and clean. Breakfast a good variety and plenty on offer. All in all a great stay

The servicing of room was poor. Breakfast was poor. The cooked breakfast was dry and cold, for a cost of £12 was very poor value. The fresh fruit salad was poor as the orange slices still had the peel on. We have stayed in other Mercure hotels and had better breakfast. On the positive side all the staff we dealt with were polite, friendly and helpful.

Hotel was ok, had a room on the second floor at the back. I didn’t get much sleep as there is a shipping container company at the back of the hotel loading trains all night bang shang -a-lang.

We used the hotel as a stopover for shopping at Meadowhall. Very convenient for this purpose, otherwise is on an industrial estate, so a bit out of the way. Comfortable and clean.

Nice hotel
Hotel was quiet, not many guests staying that night so perfect that point of view. If other guests are noisy then that can ruin a nights sleep. Room was spacious and clean and comfortable but the air con was not working which was hugely disappointing given the current heatwave. I turned the dial down to 5 degrees as advised but made no difference. We were offered another room earlier in the evening but felt too late to change once we realised the air con definitely not working. Breakfast was good and staff friendly

Good hotel - avoid the railway side rooms
The hotel was good, very clean and comfortable. Excellent but our stay was spoiled because our room backed onto the railway freight container loading track. Loading and unloading until after 11 pm and starting again at around 05 am with bright working lights and noisy container lifting equipment.

The room was lovely, but unfortunately the showergels provided were empty and the cleaner didnt come and clean the room. Problems with the safe and door key. Breakfast was disappointing on the first morning. Bread and pastries weren't stocked up. Had to ask for our eggs, as they were taking a while. Bacon was undercooked. No room service. We wanted to eat in the restaurant on the second evening, but what we chose for our mains they didnt have. There were menus all over the hotel with these items on, but when we went there they gave us a different menu.

The hotel was surrounded by factories we booked there because it’s only a couple of miles to the arena . The hotel was clean and modern we found the staff were pleasant and the rooms were clean I’d stay there again if I was going to the arena again

Rooms and service need improvement
Privilege room (103) was clean and spacious with a large comfortable bed and lovely modern bathroom but it was let down by poor maintenance and service. I specifically booked a Privilege room because it had air conditioning and a fridge but neither worked (I had to have the windows open as the room was very warm despite the air conditioning supposedly being on and the fridge was essentially just a cupboard with a light in it). The soap dispenser and shower gel dispensers in the bathroom were both empty (the dispensers were also set up very strangely with the shower gel dispenser attached to the wall by the sink rather than in the shower). On the morning of check out, I requested to check out 1 hour later at midday but was told there would be a flat fee of £10, so I didn’t bother. When I checked out, the Receptionist did not look up from his computer when he spoke to me, and he did not respond when I said goodbye as I was leaving. The blonde lady on Reception when I checked in late on 7 July was, however, lovely and very helpful/apologetic. This hotel does not represent good value for money in its current condition.
