The bad odor smacks you in the face as soon as you walk in. The carpet is gross-I kept my shoes on the whole time. Shower is tiny, rusty, and the water smells terrible. Coffee pot was growing actual mold inside. And the room felt damp. The only positive is the walking distance to au train beach.

Staff is helpful and it was really clean. The rooms are nice and quiet so you'll get a good night's sleep.

Hotels in the UP have a different grading scale than I’d expect for Chicago. That said, this place is a Yooper 3 or “regular” 2. Desk staff was friendly. We didn’t use any amenities other than a quick cup of lobby coffee, which was good! Our room was…interesting. The floors actually sloped in multiple directions, we thought we were back at the Mystery Spot. It was so disorienting, but a bit funny too. Is this place sinking? Was there a huge renovation problem? Foundation issues? Due to the slope(s) in the floor, the room door was cut at least an inch to allow it to open properly, which made privacy from the hall an issue. Cleanliness was questionable. The room had a strong mildewy odor. Bath had mold near the floor and shower curtain. It was too dark in the room to really see how clean it was. Ceiling and walls were water damaged. Towels were downright crunchy, but appeared clean. Bed was comfortable, shower had good pressure, easy walk to downtown, plenty of parking, easy access to main roads, free library was charming. So it’s a Yooper 3 but anywhere else 2 overall.

Bathroom door did not shut, carpet was dirty and very small square bed pillows.
