It was a beautiful place to stay. So far I've been there 3x and each time was great. Having to go to the Duke Clinic, I know that I have a safe and clean place to stay.

I would not recommend nor would I be go back to this hotel. The hallway has a moldy smell to it, it may be the noticeable old carpet throughout the halls. Ppl smoke in their rooms and you can smell it coming through your own room. My card was charge 3 additional fees everyday I spent there, I spent 3 nights there after my first day I was charged $3.56; the lady at the desk said it was an overnight audit charge and it would be returned after checkout. The 2nd my card was charged $17.03; a different front desk woman stated this was for the amenities that I didn’t use. Only thing I used was the WiFi and they promote the WiFi is free. The last day I was there my card was charged $103.56; I still don’t know what this charge is for and I’ve been trying to contact them for an explanation. Because I checked out at 4am to catch my early flight, the two attendants at the front desk couldn’t explain to me why I was charged this fee and told me to call the property later in the day when a manager was on shift. It appears as if they have this issue often because upon going to the front desk about the first additional charge, I heard a previous customer on the phone inquiring about the charges she was told would be deposited back to her account which weren’t as of yet and the desk person told her upon check deposits are returned to the card and it’s a possibility the customers bank is delaying the return payment. If u stay here put the exact payment on a prepaid card!

Stayed 2 nights to do research at Duke University, clean and quiet. Offered shuttle to medical center and VA. Only suggestion is offering transportation to other areas of Duke. We were able to walk the mile or so to the library. Excellent price was a big plus.

Lobby is misleading in comparison to the rooms. A/C was spotty at best. Unable to keep a comfortable temperature. Stains on carpet and baseboards of bed. Very noisy at all hours. 3am sounded like moving furniture for at least an hour and a half. 2nd day was some better. Door would not stay shut in bathroom. Ran out of coffee and only decaf was available at front desk. Friendly staff but will pass on a future stay.

After booking I went back and reread some reviews and regretted my choice. I did not experience what most people did with 1 star reviews. Here were the plusses to me. My sheets and bathroom were clean. Window didn't lock A/C-Heating unit was old and noisy. The hotel is definitely somewhat dated and a little musty smelling. You get what you pay for and all in all, my stay was trouble free. Front desk staff were very friendly, lots of parking and good location to Duke. Would I stay here again, maybe but I'd probably spend a little more and stay someplace else. I would neither encourage or discourage anyone from staying here,

Every aspect of this run-down hotel is filthy. Stained carpeting every 10-feet, poor lighting, food debris at every turn, off putting odors in hallways and lobby, guests smoking weed/pot in guest rooms. Front desk attendant unpleasant and more focused on boyfriend than guests. Complete filth. Stay clear.

I didn’t like the fact that, 1. On my check in I requested a room with a nice view instead I got no view. 2. On the hotel flyer it said that happy hr was a y certain time when I went down there was nothing and everything was close( the bars) 3. The pool was not working and it was dirty and the pool bathrooms were durty as well.

My first room was on the 4th floor it took several minutes to get there due to the long walk. As soon as I step off the elevator it reeked cigarette smoke. My room smell so bad! I immediately called the front desk and asked to be moved. I was escorted by staff to another room within minutes. I was placed on the 1st floor close to the lobby which I liked. I felt like I was being bitten by something while I slept like a mosquito or something I never noticed any bite marks or saw any bugs in or around the bed or room. I chose to wear my long pajamas tie my hair up and sleep with socks on. The fridge didn’t work so I had no cold water. The tv was so small from the distance from the bed I chose to watch a movie on my computer on Netflix instead. At least I could move it closer to me. The bar served very reasonable drinks and the bartender Daniel was very nice. The breakfast should be complementary to your stay because the selection definitely wasn’t worth $9.99 I was better off going to IHOP. I only stayed 1 night in between my travel out of town. The outside makes you feel like luxurious accommodations but it was definitely any but.

Could be so much better
This hotel needs TLC in the worst way. It looks showy from the outside but is very tired and shabby from the inside. Rattling fan in our bathroom all night long. Broken floor buttons in the creaking elevator. Banged up furniture in the room. Lights without any access to plugs. Checked out 48 hours ago and still have not been e-mailed a receipt. Location and proximity to Duke and Durham couldn't be better.

I booked this hotel because my sister had stayed here before and she liked it. I had a different experience….I think because I used a third party site. The lobby and front of hotel were nice. We were put on the left side of hotel on 1st floor and had to move because of the smell. They moved us to the second floor and our room was ok, but there was a water mark on the wall near the ceiling. The left side had a lot of young men who appeared to be construction workers staying there. People were always standing outside smoking and on the phone when I would go out to my car. The price was good and I guess that is what I paid for. My sister had a totally different experience and I think her room was on the other side of the hotel. I was alway wary when going to my car because of how many men were always around.
