"Excellent location. Only issue was lack of food available on the second evening due to staff shortages. ( not really what you want to hear when you are hungry). The bathroom was lovely, however it was a little high to climb into the shower, bath and someone who was suffering with a bad a leg found it hard going, also getting out of the bath/shower there was no hand rail to support. "I was very happy with the hotel and staff. room was perfectly adequate with plenty of tea and milk, something lacking in other places iv stayed, very clean all around the hotel, always greeted by any member of staff with a hello at any time of passing. The biggest plus was the price, £40 or £50 cheaper than any similar standard place within a long distance. Excellent effort and nice to have stayed there. "

"Be aware that only half of this hotel has elevator access. Staff communication is questionable, we were booked in for dinner only for to find out when we arrived that reception was not aware that the entire dinning room was booked for a tour bus group. We had to eat in the bar. Morning breakfast with the same tour group was very disorganised, and it was very much first come first serve for seating."

"Really lovely stay at The Grand - hotel room is spacious, clean and comfortable and added touch of chocolates/anniversary card. We did receive our Expedia VIP benefit of £20 food/wine credit but actually didn't realise we had so would have been good for this to be noted. We also enjoyed the spa in the morning and the breakfast (though at £25 , make sure you're hungry). Lovely 1906 bar too with live music. Walkable to York. "

Appreciate the history and age of the building but it’s in need of a few domestic repairs. Unable to reduce the temperature of the water in the shower and was far too hot. "It's a lovely hotel, great staff, nice rooms, and a good location. Breakfasts were good. Our only issue was the stairs. There is no lift in the hotel. Staff carried our luggage up when we checked in and brought it down when we checked out which was greatly appreciated, but if someone has mobility issues, the stairs are a challenge."
