It’s a cozy, back-to-nature stay where you can truly slow down — and fall asleep to the sound of a crackling fire — and maybe some rain on the metal roof too. Just off the Old Island Highway, you’re centrally located for exploring Vancouver Island — minutes to the nearest beach and about 10 minutes to Qualicum Beach. It’s perfect as a stopover en-route to Tofino or the North Island, or for a longer, slower retreat in nature. Parksville and Coombs are an easy drive, with outdoor favourites like Spider Lake (\~15 min), Cathedral Grove (\~25 min), Horne Lake Caves (\~25 min), and Mount Washington (\~45 min) all within easy reach. SHARED SAUNA EXPERIENCE We’re so excited to share our new shared wood-fired sauna with you, complete with a change area and an outdoor cold water shower on the platform for the full hot/cold reset. If you plan to use it, you’ll need to be comfortable building and tending a fire and using an axe to prep kindling. Please be mindful of the other cabin when sharing the sauna space. Wood-fired heat is unhurried — give it a little time to get cozy. Further guidelines and safety notes will be shared in the guest guide and posted onsite. THE CABIN When we say “hand built,” we mean it. This cabin was constructed from the ground up by local islander Francis Provencal, using timber from the property — from felling and milling logs to building the cozy interior and finishing touches. INSIDE YOU\`LL FIND: \-Warm, open living area with hand-peeled logs and gorgeous wide plank wood floors \-TV with Firestick (streaming) + DVD player and a big DVD collection \-Fully equipped kitchen with all cooking essentials, plus coffee & tea \-Small indoor dining table \-Spacious loft with two queen beds \-Double sofa bed in the living area for extra sleeping space \-3-piece bathroom with a shower/tub combo \-Two decks (front + back), with a large back deck featuring an outdoor dining table for 6 and a propane BBQ (propane included) WIFI & CELL SERVICE Wi-Fi works great. Cell service is limited inside the cabin and works best outdoors — Wi-Fi calling is a good solution. PARKING Free designated parking is right outside the cabin. You’ll have plenty of privacy — the cabin sits beside just one other. The owners live across the creek nearby if anything comes up, but you likely won’t see them. PETS Pets are welcome. The rear deck is fenced, but the yard is not fully fenced, so pups should be well-behaved and supervised if off-leash. It was cool to see the craftsmanship that went into this cabin, which is clean and comfortable. Even in the summer heat, the cabin stayed cool. The wood stove kept us nice and warm, though there is electric heat too, and we enjoyed being able to sit on the comfy couch and watch it. There is an unexpectedly great selection of movies and games, plus the ability to stream. Bring food to cook in the full kitchen and there's no need to leave. Sleeping area is in the loft with a steepish ladder. I recall there was another review the commented on the outhouse - not sure if this was the other cabin on the lot but the Slo-Go cabin has a nice full bath. Always appreciate a pet friendly rental. Received timely communications from the rental folks with thorough instructions (including specifics on directions, keypad codes, etc) and lots of info in the cabin about how to reach people in case of issues. ##### Amie W. I selected this cabin because it looks so typically Canadian. We had a blast. The cabin is lovely, exactly as described and it has a the essential. Little plus, there was the basics for cooking (oil, sal and pepper). We had fun chopping our own wood and using the stove to make fire, plus it was so relaxing to be in the forest, although a little close from the highway. The only negative point is that there was a power outage when we arrived and the cabin is not equipped with torches, and it took a little long to hear back from the property manager. ##### Aude G. It’s the perfect escape for anyone looking to unwind and reconnect with nature. The cosy wood stove made the cabin feel extra warm and inviting, and it was the ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring. Although we never met our host in person, we knew they were available if we needed anything, which made us feel well taken care of. The cabin is also a fantastic place to bring your dog — our furry friend loved it! There is a cabin next door, but the way the cabins and firepits are thoughtfully arranged gave us plenty of privacy. We really appreciated that! The cabin is well-equipped with everything you need to cook meals, and they even provided coffee and tea, which was a lovely touch. You will need a car to stay here, but there are plenty of great adventures nearby, so you don’t have to do much driving to enjoy the area.
