The cottage is clean, comfortable and has been renovated and updated over the last 2 years. It comes with everything you'll need for your lakeside getaway. You'll feel right at home the moment you arrive at the lakefront abode. Grab your bags from the car, get yourself situated and then start enjoying everything lake life has to offer! Moor your boat off of the small beach area that transitions to a smooth sandy bottom. Sit outside in the comfortable Adirondack chairs and enjoy the sunsets. Dine outside at the pub style table with 2 stools or the dining table with 2 benches that seats 4. In the winter you can walk right out onto the ice for fishing or to watch the snowmobiles and side by sides race on the track that's built every year around the time of Tip Up Town. Inside you will find 574 sq ft of living area featuring lake views from the living room and master bedroom. The master bedroom sleeps 2 in a queen memory foam bed while the second bedroom sleeps 2 in a full/double memory foam bed. The living room also has a Lazy Boy full sleeper sofa. Other comforts include air conditioning, free WiFi, 52" smart TV, family games and 2 comfortable sofas. The living room opens to the fully equipped kitchen where you will find updated appliances, counter space, Keurig coffee maker and a small table that extends to accommodate 4. Houghton lake has something for everyone! Both summer and winter sports, trail riding, mini golf, go carts, shopping, antiquing, dining, movies, coffee shops, ice cream shops, sweet shops and open air fruit markets. There are drinking/eating establishments very close as well as a meat market, ice cream shop, coffee shop and open air fruit market all within walking distance of the cottage. \*\*\*There is a Ring security camera that covers the area outside of the front door and parking lot. There are NO cameras inside the cottage\*\*\* Thank you for checking out our little slice of paradise! Reviews were good but when we arrived we were suprised to find something else. I wish I had read more recent reviews before we arrived as I would have cancelled when I learned about the mouse droppings. (Which remain in the cupboards.) The outside was dirty, the furniture and door had not been wiped down. Inside smelled strongly of cleaning agents so we were hopeful, but the appliances were filthy. The handle and front of the refrigerator and microwave were gross. The inside of the fridge had food spills, stains, and other people’s food. While the sheets appeared clean, the blankets and pillows were stained and yellowed and had a musty odor. The bathroom had a broken shower head and the sink filled with dirty water and facial hair when the water was run. The ceiling fans were covered in so much dust we could not use them, and my son was congested from the dust. We attempted to reach the owner using VRBO and the information provided in the guest book, with no response. We were fortunate to get a room at a nearby hotel. We attempted to reach the owners all weekend with no response. The interior was clean and cozy, with comfortable beds, plenty of towels and linens, and reliable WiFi. We especially appreciated how well-stocked it was for a short stay. The living room was a nice spot to relax, and we were glad to have a fold-out sofa—even if it could have used a bit more attention from the cleaners.As expected with a lake cottage in the off-season, we came across some mouse droppings in cabinets, drawers, and the sofa bed. Not a big deal, but worth noting—and the owners were very responsive and apologetic when we let them know. The kitchen table is small, so it felt a bit tight for our family of four when dining indoors. Also, be prepared for bright morning sun in the bedrooms—bring a sleep mask if you're sensitive to light.The property is centrally located and just a short drive from great hiking, but it’s situated on a very busy road with no sidewalk, so use caution if you plan to walk or bike. ##### Nicole G. It is a perfect winter getaway. We needed to be close to some winter activities. We skied at Treetops in Gaylord, and knowing that we had a warm and cozy cottage to come back home to after was wonderful. If you’re looking for an up north retreat on the water for any season in Michigan, this is the place for you. ##### Steven W. Had everything you may need and then some (minus clothes and food)! We wished they would have described location better and how the beach it's on is incredibly small but our toddlers would play there in the evening. They say "its the little things that matter", well thats most certainly true of this property. such high end amenities in the little things, towels,bedding mattress,decorations, gift basket, etc....So nice to have a host like Lynn that is there if you need anything....Great location also.... ##### connie t.
