This was the only disappointing stay of our 10-day trip in Costa Rica. For the vast majority of our stay, we had no electricity or running water in our room. I understand that some conditions are unavoidable such as planned power outages. However: 1. The hotel staff clearly knew that there was a planned power outage and could have told us this when we checked in (or better yet, *before* we checked in). Instead, they slipped a note under our door at night. 2. The fact that we also had no water suggests that the hotel does not have backup generators for their water pump. I'd expect more from a boutique resort hotel. 3. The staff was not willing (or able) to compensate us in any way for these inconveniences. In short, we paid $165 per night for the privilege of: - taking cold showers from an outdoor public water spigot, - hiking to a nearby restaurant in order to charge our phones and laptops - sleeping in a room without air conditioning, electricity, or water.
