Here you can enjoy family-friendly watersports, relaxed sunbathing on soft white sand and unrivaled views across the Mediterranean Sea. Porto Istana sits on the northeastern coast of Sardinia and forms part of the island’s Costa Corallina.
Porto Istana is a collection of small bays interspersed by rocky outcrops. When the tide is out, walk comfortably between the bays. The beach’s white sands slope gently toward the beautiful turquoise Mediterranean Sea. The shallow and calm water is ideal for taking a refreshing swim, making the area popular with families with young children. Spot multicolored fish swimming on the seabed. Schools of fish are particularly visible around the rocks and pier at the northern end of the beach.
At this well-equipped beach you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, which provide shade from the warm summer sun. Watersports enthusiasts will find kayaks, sailboats and windsurfers to rent. Alternatively, stand at the shore and admire the uninterrupted views of the large limestone island of Isola di Tavolara. On an especially clear day you can see the western coast of mainland Italy far in the distance.

Porto Istana is about a 20-minute drive from the town of OlbiaOpens in a new window. Public buses connect the beach with Olbia at regular intervals throughout the day. A convenient way to get here is via rented car or scooter. Park in the metered parking lot located a 5-minute walk above the beach. Alternatively, use the limited free parking available on surrounding streets.
