"A tranquil place where the service is impeccable"
A beautiful place to relax and just unwind. Its very quiet, you don't see hardly any other guests. If you want to chat with other guests or want to perform karaoke or be entertained by dave the juggler whilst eating 'authentic' pasta then go to a resort full of kids down the road;) Seriously, the mayakoba is a place where you ask for ice and it arrives within ten minutes then the next night you don't need to ask as it is already there for you. you get my drift..... We dined in, dined out. With these resorts unless you have a car you are a captive, we hired a car to explore. its really recommended. The hire car is cheaper than an airport transfer go figure. Always make sure you get at least a breakfast deal included as its 50 bucks a head if you don't. Depending when you go its worth getting a villa with hot tub and heated pool. trust me, it makes the difference. So when you first arrive tell them to max the pool temp so when it rains you jump in that sucker and chill out. The whole place from the night turn downs to the choice of pillows before you arrive shouts comfort and it doesn't disappoint. Its simple, 5 days here or 3 weeks in a Thompson 'five' star, give me this anyday Oh, last thing, the wife is a celiac, lactose allergiac & veggy. These guys went out of their way to help plus the waiters knew what it meant

"Very outstanding hotel."
Yes. The hotel is located in Mexico. It was my first trip to Mexico. I, by myself, placed an order for taxi service at the time of hotel check out. It was my terrible mistake of the entire trip. The taxi never showed up, I waited for 1 hour and 30 min. I was getting very embarrassed when my 2 year old son started crying and upset. The hotel crews always tried to help me out and very polite. And then one of the hotel employees approached to me and stated "Thank you for choosing our hotel. There is courtesy vehicle ready for your next place." I did not expect that but tanked. I do not remember the name of the employee but I thank the hotel again.

"Fantastic relaxing getaway"
Grand Velas Riviera is a gorgeous resort. First off, the spa is absolutely incredible. Having been to many spas in the Caribbean, I think it's fair to say that this is likely the best or one of the best spas I've experienced. Second, there are ample dining options all of which are better than average to great. The rooms are spacious and clean and with gorgeous reviews. While the beach is beautiful, the ocean is not really conducive to swimming. If you're looking for ample water time, it's going to be the pool, which, as noted earlier, is gorgeous.

"Your home away from home."
Lots of room--maybe a thousand square feet, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and spacious living room. It was clean and well decorated. The staff was great. The pool is small, but an unusual shape that the kids loved. Floors in the condo are marble tiled so you don't have to worry about tracking in a little water. Perhaps the nicest thing is that you're about a block away from both the beach and 5th avenue which are both fun but noisy. This condo is quiet. Pickup for bus tours is only about 2 blocks away. But if you're going somewhere other than the toll road to Chichen Itza, consider using a taxi. The taxis were cheaper. And the drivers were all very nice. Fares are posted on signs at the stands. So you will know how much it's going to cost before getting in the cab. Go about 2 or 3 blocks in any direction from this hotel/condo, other than toward the beach, and you'll run into a taxi stand. We grocery shopped several places--our favorite by a long shot was Mega. It was nice not having to get dressed to go to a buffet in the morning. And it was also nice not having to think about wasting money on an all inclusive when we were out of the hotel every day. The seaweed is still a problem. And if the wind blows toward the condo it will bring a bad smell with it. But closing the condo door & turning on the air conditioning completely eliminates the smell from your room. This is not the hotel for beach loungers. But it's wonderful for explorers who want a great base camp.

Loved the staff, food and entertainment. The beach wasn't that great. Don't use the photographer- adventure photos- they are pricey and terrible quality. We did a vow renewal and we're glad our friends took pics or we would have none! my husband and I had a great time here and will consider returning. They made our anniversary special!

Absolutely beautiful!!!. Staff were very attentive. Kind, Gorgeous weather. Many options to eat from the grounds were clean. The pools were sparkling clean every day. The drinks were top shelf and plentiful. The activities were all day for all kinds of people. 5th avenue is in walking distance and tons of fun. Coco Bongo is within walking distance and lots of fun. Swim-up rooms were fun including meeting nice people from all over the world. Liquor dispensers in the rooms and 15 different choices of drinks to mix with in your room fridge. Daily Snacks including potato chips, nuts, and fiber bars. Also Room Service would bring you more beer and bottled wine and champagne when you ran out. All in all I can go on and on... it was just a nice and relaxing week stay.

Pocket Guide: Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya Spa Hotels

Still small enough to explore on foot, Playa del Carmen has a relaxed, yet cosmopolitan feel, with a variety of hotels, shops, and restaurants ranging from causal to upscale. European-style sunbathing is common on beaches. Playa is a popular jumping-off point for day trips to Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Tulum, and other peninsula attractions, and a passenger ferry makes frequent runs to Cozumel.
