The villa is located among a stretch of private beach homes in the quiet Plantation area on the Placencia peninsula. The home is composed of three suites. The upper level living area has a suite. It is composed of a master bedroom, full gourmet kitchen, living room, private bath with an open shower and two sinks. Vaulted mahogany ceilings and hardwood floors provide beauty and comfort. A covered 400 sq. ft. veranda runs the length of the home and provides views of the ocean from the deck and inside of the home. The living room has a comfortable convertible double sleeper couch. Enjoy your breakfast on the porch watching the sunrise as the sea breeze gently cools you. The house is designed to allow the ocean breeze access to the entire house as the outside living space blends with interior living area. There are individual AC units in the bedroom and living area to cool the unit for your comfort. Ceiling fans throughout the home keep the air fresh. The ground floor offers two suites. One has two queen beds and the other one has one queen bed. Both offer a ensuite bathroom. Double doors lead directly onto the deck, pool and beach. The spaces share a smaller kitchen between the two bedrooms, a convenient way to store the poolside drinks without having to venture upstairs. Each unit is individually air conditioned. The ground floor units open onto a 800 sq. ft. covered veranda with pool. The swimming pool is perfect size to keep you cool while you enjoy the view of the ocean. Enjoy the decks and pool veranda to swim or sunbathe. There is a variety of patio furniture, a hammock, and a gas barbecue here. You only have to venture a few steps in the white sand to your own private beach complete with chairs, hammock and covered palapa. Finally there is a third floor - an observation deck which allows views of the ocean, the lagoon, and the Mayan mountains. This spot is perfect for breakfast coffee and an evening 'sundowner'. The observation deck provides truly breathtaking views. If you don't like to cook, a private chef can be recommended. Imagine, that you relax in the pool with a sundowner and the private chef says "dinner's ready"! The property caretaker lives across the street. The home is unique in that it has Caribbean beachfront as well as shorefront on the scenic Placencia lagoon. This offers diverse recreational options including kayaking and fishing. Two double kayaks are provided with the house, together with lifejackets. The villa is 10 minutes to the village of Maya Beach, where there is a good selection of bars and restaurants and the nearest grocery store. It is a further 15 minutes to the village of Placencia. There are many tour opportunities in the Placencia area; SCUBA, snorkeling, jungle river trips and fly fishing just to name a few. The fishing is world class and makes Placencia home to many well known international fishing outfitters. The diving make this a favorite destination for SCUBA enthusiasts. The offshore reef is the second largest in the world and is a thrill to both novice and seasoned divers. There is easy access to the Hummingbird highway leading north to the mountains and many famous rain forest lodges. There are also a number of day spas on the peninsula. We would book here again. The only downside (which can't be helped) is the ability to walk on the beach for a bit unless you hop in the water on occasion. I love to take a mile or two stroll first thing in the morning and was not able to do so. He has books and games to use, bath and pool towels, kitchen essentials and some extras - like 5 gallons of drinking water per floor and coffee. The kids loved the pool...it was very clean, and floats were provided. We didn't get to take out the kayaks...the water was too rough. I think going on the lagoon side might have been an option, but we ran out of time. We went snorkeling and sailing from Placencia, and we had such an amazing time! Eating out, we loved Maya Bistro, especially for breakfast, Green Parrot (the best key lime drink ever), and Laguna. There are so many delicious options for food though. The set up is such that it's like have three apartments. My husband and I had the top floor and my two adult sons and their significant others had the two room on the main level. It's so nice for everyone to have their own space and bathroom. Herbert was very responsive and helpful. I'm not saying this as a negative, but just for informational purposes, our wifi wasn't great with T-mobile, but someone else in our party has At&T and it worked better for her. We loved staying in this house on the beach. If you are looking for a relaxing and private get away than this is it! The house had comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen and the beach and pool were perfect for spending time reading and kayaking. Herbert was an excellent host as well:) Some tips: It is about 25 min from Placencia so you will need to rent a car. We used Leo’s Car Rental and they were great. It’s about 10 min from Maya Beach and we loved to eat at Maya Beach Bistro. We took the car North 30min to visit a chocolate farm and hike to waterfalls in the Mayflower Bokawina Park. You can also visit Cockscomb national park that is only 20 min away! For tours, book with Truly Wild Belize. You won’t regret it! Stock up at Publix in Seine Bight for food. Enjoy! ##### Bree V. Herbert was a fabulous host who was very positive and responsive to all of our inquiries. The home was well-equipped and our 2 young adult children loved having their own floor with their own bedrooms and bathrooms with a kitchen! The construction next door was loud at times, but not the fault of our host. It looks like they were almost finished. A few men approached us at our private pool and front door to sell things, but were polite when we asked them to leave. We loved having our own pool at the house and the kayaks provided were also very fun to use. The house was a great set up with 2 bedrooms and a kitchenette on the main floor which walked out to the pool on the beach! The upstairs has another bedroom with kitchen and living space. The house was very clean and communication was excellent. The house is about 20-25 minutes from Placencia. We actually did not spend much time in Placencia but rather enjoyed the nearby chocolate tour, an amazing day of fishing and snorkeling, and enjoying the house. Maya Bistro is about 10 minutes drive and has good food with very friendly staff. Leo’s car rental was very accommodating and Captain Jak’s set us up with a great experience at Mojo Caye which was amazingly beautiful. ##### Kate R. We recently stayed at Our Special Harbor and it was fantastic! The house was super clean and well stocked. The check in process was seamless and Herbert was an exceptional host! He answered all my questions, gave suggestions for restaurants and excursions and was extremely easy to work with - easily the best VRBO host I've had the pleasure working with. Teo, the caretaker, kept the grounds spotless! We drove from Belize City to Placencia and it was very easy. For us, the entire Placencia peninsula was extremely quiet...it felt like we were practically the only people on vacation! We were able to walk into restaurants at any time of the day and never had to wait. We enjoyed several meals at Maya Beach Bistro - it was our favorite! We also enjoyed Naia; the Barefoot Bar for yummy drinks and appetizers; my girls loved the coffee at Brewed Awakenings and we all loved the gelato at Tutti Frutti. Having the pool right on the ocean was amazing! When we were there, the ocean wasn't as clear in front of the house as it was in Placencia itself. It didn't bother us at all, but just thought I'd share. You also cannot get very far walking on the beach if that is important to you. However, it is an amazing property and you cannot beat the view. We went on an island hopping tour with Go Sea Tours and snorkeled around Silk Caye & swam with nurse sharks & sea turtles. We also did the Cave Tubing & Xunantunich tour with Truly Wild Belize.
