Situated in Pingtung City’s Chonglan Village, the grandness of the Residence is evidence to the Hsiao Family’s wealth, power and well-respected social status at the time. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong in Ching Dynasty, the Hsiao Family ancestor, Hsiao Wei-Tian, crossed the Taiwan Strait and started his life in Taiwan as a farmer. Later, he engaged himself in the sugar trade business which later prospered and transformed him into an incredible wealthy man with accumulating riches. However, the suite I was assigned (923) faced an internal space with ventilation pipes running through it. There was no view and almost no light. I stayed there for a week with the curtains drawn. Even worse, a portable and noisy dehumidifier was running as soon as I entered. I was stuck with a damp smell for a week. There was no possibility of changing rooms because the hotel was declared full on the day of my arrival. I would like to say to those responsible that if they have one or more rooms that are unsanitary, they should not rent them out until they have done the necessary work. It's a matter of respect for customers who haven't paid for substandard and unsafe service in terms of hygiene."
