We had a lovely time in Lynn and Senna’s “casita”. We arrived at almost midnight after an evening flight and a battle for a rental car (don’t rent from Fox). Our hosts provided excellent directions, easy acces and had snacks and beverages available in the kitchenette. The room is charming and comfortable; the bed provided the best sleep I’ve ever had away from home. We made use of the courtyard patio to enjoy the winter sunshine and lovely sunsets. There are roosters, goats, ponies and dogs; and yes, the roosters crow, but we didn’t have trouble sleeping through their morning calls.
We took breakfast in the mornings at Hash Kitchen in Scottsdale, a 20-minute drive away, and partook of the delicious whisky at The Gladly on Camelback. (There are places closer, but we chose to see more of the city.) The room is clean and pretty and there was plenty of steaming hot water for cleanup after long walks along the Verde River.
Senna and Lynn checked in to make sure we were comfortable and see if we needed anything. The contact was gracious and unobtrusive.
I am not a VRBO newby and I have very high standards. I will say that the stay was not perfect; however, our hosts were gracious and helpful in every respect, and the way they handled the minor problems indicates to me that they will have a 5-star rental in the future.
Casita to me indicates that the rental is a stand-alone building. It is actually attached to the main house, with a private entrance and its own patio. The room is lovely and comfortable, so the question of labeling didn’t deter me... until the construction noises started on the other side of the wall. As it turns out our hosts are expanding to create an adjoining unit and were unaware that their contractors were creating a ruckus while we were trying to enjoy the rural peacefulness. Once aware, they took care of the noise.
If you don’t mind a little driving for a bit of solitude and an authentic, rural Arizona experience, this is a terrific spot. I have no doubt that it will only get better as Lynn and Senna continue improvements. I look forward to going back when the second unit is ready.
