Pros and Cons

Posted 25-Dec-2016
Pros: Location, connection to mall.
Cons: The lobby is actually located on the 3rd floor. It would be great if the website had this info in bold!
There are more pros than cons, so I would definitely recommend The Westin located in the heart of Philly. However, the biggest con was that the hotel proceeded with a fire drill, in which the fire alarm went off with a PA announcement. Personally, this was the first time ever to be in a hotel fire drill. Another thing was that, it would've been nice for the staff the customer know ahead of time when checking in. I was travelling with my 1.5 year-old son. My son takes his morning nap around 11am for about 2-3 hours. As my son was taking his nap, into it about 45mins or so, the fire drill PA announcement is made and the fire drill happening with the alarm sounding loud for at least 15mins or so. I tried everything to keep my son asleep, but he woke towards the end and I had to deal with his tiresomeness for the whole day! Location, yes, great! Shopping mall connection, yes, great! But, the fire drill part was terrible! So, beware!

Upon checkin we got an attitude when asking for late checkout (we explained we were running the Philly marathon) and though all 4 of us were standing there they didn't take any additional names and only gave us 2 keys. When one of our party had to drop out of the marathon halfway through due to injury, they wouldn't let her into the hotel room. I would believe this was due to security if they hadn't claimed what they needed was for me to call them...so a friend called and claimed she was me and they let my sister in without verifying any info. Horrible service. No effort made at all to give any sort of comfort to a sweaty and hurt runner in spandex in the 30 degree weather while waiting for some random person to call and claim it was okey for her to be admitted into the room. The whole thing was ridiculous. Faith at the front desk has solidified our decision to never stay at a Westin for any of our marathon weekends again.

We are very disheartened to hear you had a disappointing experience with us! As a branch of The Westin brand, we strive to achieve a renewing experience for every one of our guests and your feedback allows us the opportunity to evaluate and improve. It is true that a person's name needs to be on the reservation to allow entry into a room and we will ensure re-training is issued on this protocol. Rest assured that your feedback about Faith is being shared with the management team. What you describe is not the norm, and is not indicative of the hospitality we strive to provide. Certainly, we feel that we can always improve on guest service and guest satisfaction, so we take this experience as an opportunity for us to do better moving ahead. We would sincerely like to thank you for voicing your concerns, Christopher Fries Westin Philadelphia Assistant Front Office Manager

downtown philly - in the heart of it all!

Posted 29-Nov-2016
Pros: All of the outside/parking staff was kind and tried to assist, though it took forever as they don't have keys to let me in. 20 minutes to gain access
Cons: stair access; don't hang up on customers when call from the stairwell. why is the check in only accessible by elevator? take staff on stairwell tour
Location: EXCELLENT - which is why we stayed there. but won't be ever again!!!
I don't do elevators. period. There was NO way of accessing my room without being escorted by staff, and no one knew how or where to go. When, at one point, I was literally locked in a stairwell with one of the escorts, he was on hold on his phone, i was transferred twice before being disconnected! NO WAY to get out, despite signs pointing to "hotel rooms" and "lobby." This is dangerous, scary and should not be permitted. In the event of a fire, the bottom door (where we entered) was locked with key (or possibly pass, but I certainly didn't have one).

Nice hotel in the city

Posted 28-Nov-2016
Our stay was comfortable, the staff was friendly, and the rooms were clean. Be mindful of the parking. Valet was $54 which allowed you the flexibility to go and come as you please. Self parking was about $40 but you would have to pay each time you would come back in.
