It's a glorious setting with extensive gardens and a large spring water filled swimming pool, yet is walking distance to the historic and colourful city of Perpignan and only 10 minutes by car to the Mediterranean's long, sweeping beaches. 'Mas Des Fleurs' comprises 3 gites. It can be rented as an individual holiday home or as part of the cluster which is ideal for a large family group holiday - total accommodation sleeps up to 12 guests in 3 gites plus 3 babies in cots. \- 10 minutes from km's of unspoilt beaches \- 2 mins to the City Centre whilst retaining a very rural feel \- 2 mins from the local Bakery which is open every day from 8am-8pm (Sunday 8am -1pm) \- Close to huge amounts of outdoor activities including Sigean Wildlife Park, Gorges, Yellow Train, Collioure, Leucate, Palais de Rois Majorque \- 15 mins from Perpignan Airport \- Heated enclosed pool - 16m \- 'Mas Des Fleurs' itself is bordered by an Apricot orchard, Olive grove and vine and palm tree nurseries, and is situated in the centre of a unique conservation area of fruit and vegetable farms called Les Jardins des St. Jacques. There is a lovely restaurant in walking distance from the farmhouse and 'Les Jardins SJ' is also home to a historic and picturesque village (Chateau Roussillon) and two first class vineyards. Plus, the beautiful city of Perpignan, with fabulous shopping, pavement cafes and historic sites is only a short bike ride or two minute car journey from the farmhouse. Throughout the year there are many festivals in the palm-tree lined city, while the old quarter is home to several multi-cultural food markets and full of fascinating Catalan architecture. It's a truly superb region for any type of holiday at any time of year, with windsurfing, kitesurfing, walking , climbing, skiing, tennis, and golf all within easy reach. From exploring The Pyrenees and Spain to soaking up the sun of The Med or touring the vineyards of the Roussillon region, there's a new activity in every direction. A short distance to several beaches and close to Perpignan - a great city to visit with plenty of attractions and restaurants. Very well managed and the gite was very well equipped for self catering. Conveniently located a few minutes from the centre of Perpignan (but with no sense of being in the city), around 10 minutes from the expansive sands of Canet Plage and with great views of the Pyrenees. It is a light and airy space, stylishly decorated throughout - and the kitchen is equipped with pretty much everything you could possibly need. The views across the beautiful gardens - including 40+ year old granary palm - and the surrounding lettuce fields (with the Pyrenees in the distance) are stunning. A friendly greeting by James with a bottle of ice-cold beer for each of us was very welcome. Especially as we'd managed to get lost in Perpignan on the last stage of our journey - despite James's comprehensive directions. Our fault! There was a very friendly greeting from the Wallers' lovely children and chocolate labradors Woody and Mocha too! After a quick trip to the supermarket - Carrefour hypermarket very nearby & a small Spar in the other direction, both very handy - we couldn't wait for a dip in the swimming pool. It is bliss. Filtered spring water heated to the perfect temperature. The property is also a short drive to Canet plage with its sandy beach and clear sea. In the other direction, it is worth the drive towards Carcassonne past stunning Cathar castles, including Peyreperteuse, which we visited. A fairly exhausting climb in hot weather, but worth it for stunning views and the sight of birds of prey. Southwards towards the Spanish border, Collioure and Banyuls are both worth a visit too, and you'll see many beautiful vineyards en route. Perpignan itself is also worth seeing - including the Arab quarter and its market. Do not listen to the staff in the tourist office who may attempt to make you avoid the area! After visiting the market, we had a beautiful Sunday lunch at the restaurant next to the Cathedral of Saint Jean, where the very hospitable waiter gave us a glass of complimentary Banyuls at the end of our meal (although it is more usually an aperitif). Glasses of fizz greeted us at Bamboo House at Canet-Plage, a restaurant recommended to us and booked for us by James & Ilona. We weren't disappointed by the freshest of seafood dishes, prepared with an oriental twist by skilled chefs Olga and Richard. The kids just jumped out of the house and stayed in the garden whenever we were in. There is so much to do and see in and around Perpignan that a week wasn't nearly enough. Lovely apartment, spolessly clean, with a beautiful and large pool area, and lovely views. James and Ilona are the perfect hosts, attentive and knowledgeable of the local area, whilst being relazed Perpignan is a lovely place to visit, even in November in this case! Towns like Coullieur are a real highlight, and the wine of this region is also seriously under-rated. Perpignan offers a huge variety of restaurants and activities, and this is the perfect base from which to visit the city and it's surrounds. Another plus point is that Spain and Barcelona are within easy reach for a daytrip. Overall a perfect stay, and shall be returning again in the summer of 2011 Highly recommended! Jan 21, 2011 #### Super place for a break in the sun We visited Le Mas last year for a short break with some friends. Ilona and James are very friendly and super helpful, they gave us lots of good advice. We stayed in the Granary Palm view suite which was lovely and large, had great facilities and felt quite private. It was spotlessly clean and well maintained with everything that we needed. The gardens are beautiful and I'm sure will improve considering the ideas the owners mentioned to us, they are both keen gardeners I understand! The pool area is idyllic and there is plenty of room to enjoy the space and to lounge out in the sunshine. Although we spent much of our time just relaxing at the villa, nearby there is plenty to do with Perpignan only about 10 minutes away. There are also some vast beaches within a short journey away. We really enjoyed our stay at Le Mas and will certainly return one day I hope! The accommodation is spacious and very well equiped with access to a beautiful and extensive garden area planted with many exotic plants and fruit trees. Access to terraces for dining is easy as is the large pool facility in the grounds, complete with bar area. The location of this property is ideal for sightseeing in the area, visiting the colourful local markets in the city ,and the long sandy beaches which this area is famed for, are a short distance away. All age groups will benefit from the location of this property and will find plenty of activities to occupy children and places to visit in the area. The friendly and relaxed approach by the owners makes this an enjoyable experience in a part of France which is less frenetic than other coastal areas. Great location in Perpignan, fantastic grounds, lovely accommodation and perfect welcome...the English owners make you feel very much at home and the decor in the gites is great - the kind of stuff you might have in your own place (lots of these gites seem to have Ikea standard stuff which is fine for a holiday but you know the owners would never use it themselves...) The pool is lovely - long enough for a proper swim (assuming the kids aren't bothering you...) with a bar area direct from an 80s american tv programme. We are going to be visiting again in 2011! The only possible complaint I can think of is the generic french cafe glassware...especially jarring given the owners passion for fine wine - however I am a snob in that area so probably need to reset my expectations....
