Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: After a delay in arriving to Fort Walton due to road work throughout the 12 hr trip I received a call that our room was ready early. We were very happy about this and were extremely satisfied with our room. This is the 3rd time in the last 3 years coming to the area each time staying at a different location. We have booked using the resort building owner, a hotel, and also used vrbo. I can honestly say booking a hotel has been our least favorite. There are both advantages and disadvantages to all but it is nice to know that you can find a wonderful place to stay through vrbo. It is a great option that we will use again. Right on the beach with beautiful views. It’s a quaint one bedroom with bunks in the hall for the kids. Overall, it met our needs perfectly for the week. However, I do feel it needs some attention. The kitchen/appliances are outdated. Cracks in the walls, popcorn ceiling was peeling in places, the bathroom tub/shower appears to be the original since that building was built and it shows. It would also be helpful if some standards are included- such as dish soap, coffee filters, trash bags, etc. I know it was suggested we bring our own but for the cost of a week’s stay during a peak season, these are amenities that many other places include without expecting renters to provide. ##### Brooklyn D. Reviewer Comments: Booked a last minute extended weekend in Fort Walton Beach. Was a little worried, as I usually plan these things months in advance. This was my first time using Brooks & Shorey and my first stay at Gulf Dunes. Very pleased with the entire experience from start to finish. The management personnel was on-site, so I didn't have to roam around looking for their office. The lady who checked me in could not have been more helpful! She explained everything to me in detail and even provided me with directions to local markets. The condo was extremely clean, affordable and beachfront - which was the best part! Unfortunately, mother nature did not cooperate, but it was still nice to get away! The amenities were awesome ... free umbrella/chair set up (which usually costs about $25 a day, free movie rental, golf, etc. I am already thinking about when I can get back to the beach, and would recommend Gulf Dunes to anyone looking for a place to vacation in Fort Walton! Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The unit location was very convenient and easily accessible. The beach service was very helpful although you had to reserve chairs each day as opposed to for the entire stay. The beach was clean unlike other areas within a 10 minute walk from the property.In the contract we had to sign, the property management company stated that "due to their high standards of cleanliness", the unit may not be ready right at 4PM. I'm not sure I want to find out what they consider a low standard of cleanliness. When we arrived, there was debris on the bed covers and furniture was visibly soiled. Our children insisted on sleeping on the pull-out. When we pulled it out, there were crumbs all over the mattress as if it hadn't been cleaned or used in months. That's also probably how long it had been since the floor was last mopped. After seeing the state of the furniture, we decided it would be best to wear our socks while inside the unit. Within 5 minutes of walking inside the unit, the gray soles of our socks were also visibly soiled. There were dust bunnies clinging to the ceiling in the bedroom like stalactites as well as dust caked to the ceiling fan blades.That doesn't even begin to speak to the general state of repair in the unit. The popcorn ceiling texture in the bathrooms was beginning to disintegrate with chunks of the texture missing. The shower drain was broken, the plunger was completely gone and we had to use a WalMart stopper to hold water in the tub for our children's baths. Not the end of the world, except for the general state of cleanliness in the unit. The metal ring around the tub drain was also broken. There was also no stopper for the kitchen sink. To wash dishes, we found the largest pot in the unit-which I am certain was made from the same gauge metal as our children's Melissa & Doug pots and pans set.I really wish I were making this up. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I've stayed at Gulf Dunes many times but would not stay in this unit again. Floors and countertops were not clean. Cooking was a challenge as the stovetop elements didn't fit properly with the drip pans. This caused them to be tilted and loose. The sofa has definitely seen better days. Don't stay in this unit if you have any knee or back problems! But the perfect weather and the view from the balcony made it a great week. We tried Stewby's across the street because it was convenient. Food was delicious and reasonably priced.
