We have been staying at El Matador for 25 years and this is the worse unit we've ever stayed in. El Matador property is always good, check-in was good, and there were even a few things about the unit that were good (balcony furniture, ease of sliding doors, master mattress -- all good). However, the carpet was BLACK with dirt and wear. The furniture ancient and so dirty. I would not sit on furniture without covering it first and would not go bare-footed. The hardware for the master closet was completely rusted. All cabinets and doors were sticky with age and dirt. This unit is in dire need of an update. I could have sworn the overall rating when I selected was a 10, so I looked back. Yep, a 10 -- 2 reviews, one in 2020 and the other in 2022 or 23. The pictures, when looking back at them, were of the current furniture but probably YEARS old. We were only staying 3 days and it was a last minute decision for a number of reasons, but we ended up leaving EARLY. I hate to complain, but felt like we were VERY mislead with this unit. As I said, we've been coming to EM for 25 years. I won't let this one experience change our overall opinion of EM but will definitely be more careful with future bookings. I also feel EM should ensure all units are advertised accurately. This unit was even higher priced due to it being closer to the Gulf. Good thing the balcony was nice.
