- Disliked: Staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities
No joy in writing this, but this is the worst Waldorf Astoria I've ever been to. Its run down, and the staff has no business being associated with the Hilton name. I couldn't wait to check out. A few examples: Elevator buttons sometimes work, sometimes not. The backlighting of the buttons is so poor its hard to know until you get to the desired floor, if at all. Called for a tea kettle. A seemingly basic request. They didn't have any. As in zero. So we had to request warm water be sent to the room. Which occasionally actually showed up. Related to the kettle, the staff would call to confirm it arrived. Sounds good. But it rarely had arrived. More importantly, by the time they called over 40 minutes had passed. The area surrounded the hotel is rather grim. A ton of closed restaurants. While not in the control of the hotel, it does impact your stay unless you're planning to stricly eat in or utilize taxis all the time. The final episode involved us trying to get some food prior to departure from the breakfast area. To be fair, we arrived 15 minutes before they opened because of our travel time. The girl tried to send us away. Then offered bread. Finally, after i was losing my cool she gave us two cappuccinos and yogurts. How hard would it be to try to make a guest feel valued rather than an annoyance? She could have made it a great moment, but had no inclination to do so. A dismal experience from start to finish.
