The Charming Grounds of the Ivy Palms

Posted 21-May-2016
Pros: Charming grounds and outdoor furnishings. Lovely continental breakfast and an outdoor space to eat it if you wished. Staff was very attentive.
Cons: Need someone maintaining the grounds/pool areas throughout the day.
Location: Went into P.S. for dinner and it was nice to escape back to the quieter area.
A room is a room, and ours was just fine. What was enchanting was all of the little outdoor spaces with wrought iron chairs and tables where you could get away from the pool crowd. Loved the wooden sunning beds with the white drapes--very cool look. Really wish the tiki hut bar was usable, but could sit there anyway and play a game, which we had brought with us. No one was minding the pool areas. It was extremely windy that weekend and chair cushions were all over the ground and pressed to the fences. No one picking up trash, or skimming the pools, which had debris in them and didn't look all that appealing. Someone added water to the pool and wasn't paying attention because it over flowed. Generally the outside areas were neglected and looked like it.

Nice place at an even nicer price.

Posted 16-May-2016
I read some reviews, booked our stay, read more reviews and thought, did I make a mistake? Well I am happy to report I did not make a mistake. Our room was clean, smelled fresh, the a/c worked great, the shower did too. People have remarked a lot here about the beds. They are different from most hotels in that they seem to use a mattress topper over a box spring. The result is a firm sleep like that of a futon. I really liked it as did my wife and daughter. So, just know that in advance and you're ok. The wifi was a little sporadic except in the lobby and the tv signal was a little fluttery, but management also said they had been having trouble with the cable company. We didn't come for wifi and tv. The layout of the place is very nice and the pools are wonderful. They even have wooden cabanas with curtains, kinda feels like old Hollywood, at least I felt that way. We paid $85 per night incl tax, really hard to beat. The Buz shuttle stops right next door and takes you all over town, with that said, compared with other areas we saw, the Ivy Palms is in a quiet, safe part of town but only about a mile from all the uptown action. Hotel staff were very courteous, helpful and never made us feel like we were inconveniencing them when we asked for something. They serve a yummy FREE continental breakfast, too. Yes, the place could use upgrades which the management volunteered to me, but overall the experience is a really good one, and as I said the price can't be beat.

Al momento del check in al personale dell'hotel non risultava la prenotazione fatta con expedia ma dopo varie chiamate al servizio clienti sono stati comunque molto disponibili e in grado di fornirci una stanza in tempi ragionevoli

nice but not clean

Posted 19-Apr-2016
There were 2 big dead cockroaches in our room upon arrival. There were smears of something brown on our head boards and several other dirty spots. Brought it to front desk they did switch us out to a new room immediately. Staff was nice, but the hotel had that frequent visitor, not clean rest stop vibe. Basic continental bfast, muffins, cereal, coffee and pastries

Nice hotel at a reasonable price. The rooms and pools were clean. Only complaint is that the beds were hard.

Comfortable & clean plus good prices...they even have continental breakfast. They have a super large swimming pool & another smaller one. Plus 2 hot tubs. Would stay there again.

Staff provided superb customer service, room was clean, and the property is as welcoming as a modest-size, modest-priced motel could be.

The staff is sketchy at best. No clue what they're doing. Hotel key locks broken during stay. (Other reviews say it's not the first time) checked us into the wrong room at first and made us prove otherwise. Matress ripped open, carpet filthy, damaged walls and furniture. * pool area ok

Need new beds.

The hotel is ok. Definitely not worth the price, Even after the upgrade of the room. The bed was hard as a rock and did not provide very much comfort. I would not recommend staying there unless it's last resort due to the comfort of the beds. The service was excellent though and they tried to accommodate as best as they could.

Good for active folks out all day

Posted 3-Feb-2016
Pros: The location is great - away from the congestion and noise of downtown. I like the basic layout of the hotel. The property is kept neat and clean.
Cons: The furniture and fixtures in the room could be updated. More thought and effort should be put into what makes a functioning bathroom.
Location: This is centrally located on major routes in PS and so great for quick exits to Joshua Tree National Park or to many of the hiking trails in the area.
This is my second time at the Ivy. Pool area is nice. Rooms are basic and clean and comfortable and perfect for active visitors who spend days out hiking or golfing or poolside and just want a place to sleep at night. Probably not for those seeking high end luxury accommodations or the picky or neat freaks. Toilet ran on this visit (handle jiggle) and shower curtain seemingly wasn't water proof so the bathroom floor got soaked. Power was out overnight and until about noon the next day due to city maintenance but guests (this one, anyway) weren't informed of the disruption (a note under the door would have been helpful). Positives include free breakfast, parking and wifi. No resort fees, I believe. Staff are generally helpful and friendly. Grounds are neat and clean. There's a good selection of restaurants nearby.
