"Perfect Ambiance"
Expedia missleads by listing this as a hotel, which it is not. it is a perfectly acceptable small B&B. The owner is helpful and charming. It has a charming courtyard full of wonderful plants, where one can eat breakfast, which is a real bonus. I expect one could sit there during the day as well, but we were constantly out exploring. And that leads to the other bonus - Al Giordino is positioned in one of the most interesting areas of Palermo that absolutely epitomises the old city: crumbling buildings, WW2 bombsites and glorious renovated 18th century palazzos. The room we had was tastefully decorated, although the huge bed occupied most of it! The small ensuite bathroom was excellent, but an additional hook or rail for bath towels would be useful (we resorted to the chairs on the balcony). We stayed 5 nights, after a week of touring the island, and without the laundry services of a hotel, a retractable line in the shower would have been very welcome, although the extractor fan would need to work...

"Hotel of convenience"
There is a large pastry in town, very attractive. We did not try the restaurant that the hotel owner recommended, just wanted to sleep early and get up early for the flight.

"Farmers at home, a friendly welcome, fabulous pool"
Staying in a hotel on a farm. Ideal for a quiet holiday. Stunning countryside views over the farm. Opportunity to visit the cows and the cheesemaking. Produce from the farm is used in the restaurant - cheeses, vegetables, meats. Even the salami and the dried tomatoes. Excellent antipasti every day. Opportunity to cook with the chef. The hotel was established a few years ago and the rooms are not modern. They have all that is necessary, good sized bed, wardrobe, table and chairs inside and outside, clean shower room. Clean towels every day. Driving to the farm from Palermo airport is relatively easy on the autostrada and SS121 which currently has roadworks (and, we guess, always has roadworks!) We visited Cefalu (the climb up to La Rocca is stepped most of the way), Agrigento (most amazing collection of Greek temples) and Villa Romane del Casale (stupendous Roman mosaics in a well preserved villa). If you want to see other Sicilian sights such as Etna, it might be better to move on and stay elsewhere as driving can be slow on the poor roads. The rest of the week we enjoyed the pool terrace which is large and sheltered. The pool is large and deep and was not very warm (may not suit families with small children). If you are looking for a relaxing week or even a few days we recommend you consider Villa Dafne.

"Fabulous hotel, a real stand out"
Loved pretty much everything about this hotel. It's beautiful with a great view of the bay and the marina. The pool area was small but sufficient for the people who wanted to use it. Yes the food/beverages were expensive compared to the rest of Palermo but entirely in keeping with other 5 star hotels I've stayed at. Just be conscious and check prices before buying. The shuttle bus to the city was excellent and no, I wouldn't have wanted to walk from the hotel either - past the docks and through various dodgy-looking neighbourhoods. Breakfast was part of the room rate, which was a good thing, not just because it was really good and there were tables on the patio overlooking the marina, but because I'm not sure where else you could get breakfast from near the hotel. There were a couple of pizza places near the entrance to the marina but other than that I didn't see any cafes or places like that.

"Nice B&B, convenient for Palermo"
We used this B&B as a base from which to visit Monreale Cathedral and Palermo, and to avoid having to take a car into Palermo - it worked well for that. The B&B itself was comfortable - our room was decorated in traditional style, fitting with the building, and had a balcony with a great view over Palermo; breakfasts were ok. The owner could not have been more helpful, advising us on visits and on buses for Palermo. Our reservations about the B&B also arose from its location, though. Because Monreale is built on the side of a hill, the trip to any restaurants within walking distance for an evening meal involved a crossing of a busy main road and an Eiger-like climb up to Monreale's centre - in the dark, at our time of visit! I would not have attempted to use the car for that trip because the B&B is down a narrow, hilly and twisting lane. The owner did try to address the evening meals issue by arranging for everyone at the B&B to be driven to, and to eat at, a local restaurant but it didn't work very well for us as vegetarians and the place wasn't one we went back to again. So probably best, as we did, to have a big lunch somewhere and bring a snack back with you for the evening. Overall, value for money was ok, although we had better value from the other hotels we stayed at in Sicily.
