Very spacious, clean and private. We stayed in the master suite for five days and it was a great base of operations for touring everything on the east side of the island. Kapoho Tide pools are less than 2 miles away and those were one of the highlights of our trip.
My wife and I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the jungle. You can hear insects and coqui frogs at night. We saw wild pigs come through the manicured grounds many times. The master suite is airy, with a king-sized bed, walk-in closet and sizable en-suite bathroom. The ceiling fan is perfect for cooling off after a day of hot activities. We used the common kitchen for prepping several evening meals and it was well equipped for the task. We socialized with some of the other guests on the lanai most of our evenings there. Papaya farms road is rough dirt and had a lot of puddle-filled potholes when we drove it, but is fine at 15mph or less.
Activities and sites we recommend for the area: Kapoho Tide Pools, Volcano National Park, Reed Bay Park, Coconut Island, Queen Liliuokalani gardens, Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls, Lava Tree State Park, Ahalanui warm pool, Pohoiki hot spring, and Mauna Kea. Stop by the farmer's market in Hilo and the night market on Wednesdays in Kalapana. Visit Waipio valley on the way to Waimea or the Kona side.
We'd rent this again in a heartbeat, but definitely for longer next time!
