Disappointed

Posted 18-Mar-2017
I read through some reviews before booking the hotel and I have to say I was extremely disappointed when we arrived. The room was not what I expected. Needed a bit more cleaning as well as a good update and renovations. I don't know if it's because we had our little dog with us that my husband and I got a crappy room, but I wasn't impressed. I hate to say, but dark and dingy are the two words I would use to describe the hotel room. Maybe the other rooms are nicer, but I wouldn't know. They did have a decent pool though and the staff were pleasant enough. Wasn't a fan of the dining options either. Overall, I will not be going back. I guess you get what you pay for.

There are worse places to stay...

Posted 13-Mar-2017
Usually Sandman is pretty good across the board, but this is just an old hotel. They made it look nice and it was clean, but the rooms and lobby smell like a washroom, the pillows are so uncomfortable (guess that's why people bring their own), and the shower/tapwater came out scalding hot. The movie service was "experiencing maintenance" and the guide on the tv caused it to glitch out and freeze for 20 seconds. The standard room is also a micro room... The positive thingis basically location and the 24 hour Dennys.. that's about it.

kids running in hallways all night

Posted 11-Mar-2017
Pros: close to shopping
Cons: staff deal with issues in a timely manner would be appreciated
Location: orchard shopping mall and resteraunts
staff let kids run through hallways all night keeping up paying guests....phoned and complained and staff said they were taking care of it as other guests were also complaining.....yet they let it go on and on all night not caring for other guests trying to sleep....this is not acceptable and staff should have shut it down far sooner than they did i counted at least 5 times throughout night kids were screaming and running through halls

good value but noisy

Posted 7-Mar-2017
Pros: location, value
Cons: better pillows (too thick)
Location: Shop
the price is an attraction but I got stuck in a room next to a high traffic hallway. Walls allow lots of noise to pass through so neighbors, whether speaking in a normal voice or having loud sex (as in my case) make sleep a challenge.

The hotel staff was very helpful. The desk clerk provided directions to restaurants, movie theatres and called us a cab. They were courteous and easily offered an early check-in.

Close to Shopping

Posted 7-Feb-2017
Pros: indoor pool and fitness centre.
I was please with the choice of hotel as it was very close to shopping etc. There were restaurants attached (Denny's, Bar One and Tokyo) which helped as it was a miserable, snowy weekend. The staff was helpful and finally I found room staff that actually followed the "enviro" guidelines laid down by the hotel. The room was clean, not overly large but right on the parking lot. It was noisey as the hotel had a number of contractors staying there who came and went at all hours. Also, the snow plows, both private and highway, add to the noise. There was also an annoying hum which I was never able to identify.

Nice amenities, but the heating isn't great.

Nice amenities, but those wall heaters take forever to heat, and dry out the air too much. Great, acomodating staff, comfortable bed.

Pros: Pool area was awesome
Everything was fine with our stay for the most part, our first night there was an alarm that went off at 2:00am. It stayed on for about 30-40 minutes. I know that these alarms are not easy to turn off and that there is a process for those situations. I think the hotel should have acknowledged it in some way with some kind of explanation or apology.

Won't book there again

Posted 26-Jan-2017
Pros: The location was desirable.
Cons: Raise the shower heads to a realistic height and inform guests before placing them in an atrium room. Additional sound proofing.
Location: Close to downtown and the mall.
My room was dark like a cave because although I had a large glass balcony door, it was overlooking the atrium, which contained the pool and was very loud during pool hours. At night I discovered that the atrium was also a passageway for guests to get to the lobby from certain rooms, but to do so they had to go through two very squeaky gates that slammed shut every time. Generally, the rooms were also very poorly insulated as I had the pleasure of listening to my neighbours 45-minute phone call at 3am one night. This hotel is also attached to a Denny's so on Saturday night at 2:30am we were treated to a fire alarm being pulled that went off for quite some time and puke in the hallways attributed to that same incident. So maybe I was just unlucky with my room placement and the noise, but the showers are built for someone that is 5 and a half feet tall, as someone who is over 6 feet tall I found this to be very annoying and hard on my knees.
