Visit Veterans Park on the Intracoastal just a block away. Here you can cast a fishing line from the public dock and enjoy a picnic as you watch boats and sea birds go by. The reimagined back yard features a screen porch that opens to a private retreat complete with a designer neon sign and TV, offering the perfect spot for evening relaxation. Gather round the cozy firepit out in the yard to share stories and enjoy smores on the charcoal firepit under the stars. If you'd like to keep your fitness routine going while on vacation, you can get an out-of-town Gym pass at Oak Island Recreation Center. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp and spend hours kayaking our beautiful marshes. Sit on the lawn and enjoy a night off cooking at our Weekly Friday night "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday prior to July 4th and features all day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening. Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different restaurants, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. There are free parking options all over town, and you can easily walk to dozens of places while enjoying the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is truly like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and grand finale fireworks show over the river front in Southport. We look forward to your visit!
