Le château de Nymphenburg est une commande du prince-électeur Ferdinand-Marie de Bavière et d'Henriette-Adélaïde de Savoie, qui voulaient en faire leur résidence d'été après la naissance de leur fils Maximilien-Emmanuel en 1662\. Pendant le règne de Maximilien-Emmanuel, la résidence a connu d'importants agrandissements et a été meublée selon la dernière mode française. Les dirigeants qui s'y sont succédés ont ajouté leur touche personnelle pour la maintenir au goût du jour. À l'origine, les jardins de Nymphenburg ont été conçus dans le style baroque, ce dont témoigne encore le magnifique Grand Parterre. Pour compléter le tableau, des cygnes glissent sur la fontaine et le canal central. Au début du 19esiècle, le reste des terres a été transformé en un jardin de conception classique. Une visite complète permet de découvrir tous les charmes du château. Allez voir la Grande Salle, absolument somptueuse, et n'oubliez pas d'observer son plafond peint. Les visiteurs aiment aussi beaucoup la galerie des Beautés du roi Louis Ier de Bavière, une collection de 36portraits de belles femmes ayant vécu au 19esiècle. La chambre de la Reine, où est né Louis II de Bavière, donne une touche humaine au palais, avec ses nombreux objets personnels. Assurez-vous d'aller visiter le musée situé dans les anciennes étables du château. Vous pourrez y voir toute une gamme de carrosses royaux, de traîneaux et d'accessoires. Le clou de l'exposition est sans aucun doute la collection de calèches et de traîneaux décadents ayant appartenu au roi Louis II. Faites le tour des terres et visitez les beaux pavillons de Nymphenburg qui sont ouverts au public. Le pavillon Amalienburg, conçu par François de Cuvilliés, un architecte qui avait été formé à Paris, est l'un des plus beaux joyaux d'architecture rococo de toute l'Europe. Le château et le parc de Nymphenburg sont ouverts tous les jours, les heures d'ouverture varient selon les saisons. Des billets combinés sont offerts.
