I stayed at the Mercure, in a King room which overlooked the street and the bars across the road didn't stop playing music until 1am, which you could hear in the room along with every other road noise and wind whistling through the windows. The room was, ok, but needs some tlc..

Hotel photos or description is nothing like the actual. Advertises parking “on site” , the receptionist tried to tell me it means “on site at the nearby car park “. There is ZERO parking onsite. Hotel is dirty , and according to the locals the hotel frontage hasn’t looked like the photo in 10 years.

We arrived at the hotel and had been given an upgrade to a king room, which was amazing, the bed was huge. The tap in the bathroom was nearly coming away though. Would highly recommend the hotel for people going to arena as it's only a few mins walk away and also close to the town center and train station. The only thing really letting the hotel down was they were having work on the building completed which we wasn't aware of until seeing the hotel so was quite noisy early morning with the works taking place but would stay here again.

It's a bad sign when you arrive in your room and they have provided complimentary ear-plugs... Unfortunately, this hotel is right next door to a VERY loud bar that is open until 2 am at weekends. If you want to get to sleep before that, good luck! For this reason I'll never stay at this hotel again. The room was small and would be tight for two people. The decor was tired and quite tacky. The toilet seat didn't stay up - a simple maintenance job. The building is old and therefore a strange layout so expect to be confused and have to walk up and down random staircases to get to your room. The whole place seems a little old and unloved, not what you would expect from the Mercure chain.

The Mercures location near to a range of alternative shops, Rough Trade, cafes catering for plant based diets etc. appealed to me. Staff were pragmatic about the fact that nobody carries credit cards anymore, In relation to deposit at check in and are reviewing cards ntactless payment options. Hotel was cozy and interesting.

A fantastic hotel in the heart of the action
The staff are welcoming and personable. The breakfast was great and the room was enormous. It's an old building and in the centre of town, so there are creaks and wobbles to be expected. The hotel recognises there will be unavoidable noise and provides complimentary earplugs without being asked. Nice touch. My only criticism is that the lift was out of order, which is an accessibility issue and should have been mentioned before the stay. Luckily I am able bodied but would have felt very annoyed if I wasn't.

The property itself was lovely, but we were put on the top floor whilst the lift was broken, which wasn’t great. The room was clean, but very small, and only had a small window, which was up quite high. The receptionist even apologised when she handed us the key. The property was located in the heart of Nottingham town centre, which was great. We stayed for 1 night, so it was fine, but any longer than that, I would stay elsewhere.

I’ve stayed at this hotel before about 2 years ago and it has seriously gone down hill and won’t stay again. Room on initial look, looked clean but when you looked closer it was filthy ! Skirting boards disgusting , bed base too! Lots if dubious stains. Side table hanging off wall. Blind hiding a filthy window. Shower tray and tiling grout need a deep clean. Had it not been for the fact that I was in a rush when I got to my room , and late back , I would have asked to be moved, but guessing if the cleanliness of this room was to go by, the other rooms must be similar . I just won’t stay or reccomend again.

Tiny cramped and not very clean room. So noisy from the street below. Zero parking and so difficult to access the from of the hotel via road due to one way system. A bad choice of hotel.

Naturally, the faster the fan speed you choose the louder the unit will be to provide the speed chosen.We do have a range of room grades at the hotel with our Privilege rooms and Suites being the largest. Tired hotel, very small and uncomfortable rooms
We stayed a single night at the hotel. Room was old and tired and very small. Toilet seat was broken and the mattress/bed was old/damaged that if you dared sleep near the edge (which you have to as it was a small double), it gave way and you fell of the bed. It is Christmas and we were there for a party but background noise from the bar below and outside was very loud and when that finished, there was a constant whining from something just outside the room to keep you awake. Staff were friendly enough and location is good but building is being refurbished so is covered in scaffolding.

Hotel not a great experience, there was scaffolding all around it (not notified in advance) and constantly had to speak to reception - tv wasn’t working, no hand soap, not enough towels and the very small room was very noisy - when we phoned reception about the noise at 11.45pm we were just told it would be quieter in about 30 mins because of a venue next door. Breakfast was good but the hotel was not of Mercure standard. Not recommended.

I am sorry to hear the room grade you chose to book was our City Pad which is the smallest of our room grades. I can also see you were provided with a complimentary upgrade to the next room size above. The Standard King you received is still one of our smaller room grades but not as small as the one you had reserved. I highly recommend booking a larger room grade should size be of importance. My personal opinion is that this hotel should not be rated as 4 Star but is more of a 3 star. On a positive note it is centrally located for Nottingham City centre amenities and is a good base for exploring the City. However I felt our room was fairly basic and quite small. The decor had a bit of a 'tired' look and could do with being refreshed. The hotel is currently being refurbished on the outside so it may be that the inside will also be updated, We didnt use the hotel facilities for food so cannot comment on that. By far the worse aspect of our stay was the fact that a nightclub/bar is located adjacent to the hotel and we had to endure very loud music until 0200 each night which kept us awake..

The window frames were covered in dirt,one of the light switches didn't work,the shower gel dispenser did not work and the toilet seat was loose.At approximately 12:30am the people in the room above started playing loud music, however after pointing this out at reception the problem was resolved

Grotty room …asked to be moved
We booked 3 rooms for a family trip. Our room was awful.Toilet didn’t flush and the bathroom ceiling and rest of it was simply terrible. Mould and peeling paint. More like a dodgy pub toilet or … Not a 4 star hotel room. Blind in bedroom didn’t work. Cigarette burn on net curtain and damage to walls. There were cobwebs. Dirt on towel. Only saving grace is reception changed the room when I asked to be moved and second room was acceptable. . But they should not be renting rooms of such a poor standard in the first place:

We were upgraded to a bigger room but the room was a state (222). The wallpaper was peeling, the wall had plaster damage, there was, what looked like brick dust on the floor behind the storage tub where no attempt to clean had been made. Disappointed with the room as all the photos on Hotels.com show them looking really stylish but in reality, ours was in desperate need of tlc.

Great location for the city centre
Great location and friendly staff on reception. We stayed 2 nights and the room wasn’t serviced so had to request extra tea, milk and water. Only a small thing but I like to have plenty to drink in the room. Rooms are starting to look a little tired but the bed was very comfortable

The hotel is right in the center of the city so great for night life and shopping, room was very nice and staff are great. Breakfast was good - it's not a quiet location but if you want to be in the center of everything this hotel is great.

The staff was really nice but went to the room it waa small but has everything you needed , however the noise was so loud from a night club till 4 in the morning , ear plugs are given and then 7;30 in the morning building works on a Sunday morning I complained and a breakfast or £20 was all they offered would not stay here if you want to nice calming break

Shocking lack of space!
Our room was ridiculously small for two people, the air-conditioning was far to loud. The side if the bed was pushed up against the wall and not easy to get out off. No room to move around without someone sitting on the bed first! The desk you could not sit at because of the bed behind you!

This is the 3rd time I have stayed at the Mercure Nottingham City. We had a problem with our aircon and we got swapped straight away to another room. The staff are friendly and very helpful. We have had rooms upgraded, and the breakfast is excellent and worth adding to your booking. The hotel is close to the city centre. Nottingham is a party town, so weekends can get loud at night. Rooms are older but cosy. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Reading the reviews, I’m guessing there’s a difference between the noise levels in some rooms, as our walls on the 2nd floor rumbled with the bass from the club downstairs until 2am. Listen to the comments about the noise. Do not stay here on a weekend unless you plan on being out until the bars close. Asked to changed rooms but kept being given the pre-prepared speech about how we’re in a city centre and all rooms are the same (fwiw I don’t believe this because our walls literally shook). The guy on duty was quite dismissive which leads me to believe they get this a lot. He claimed it was my fault because I didn’t look at google maps to see there was a nightclub next door, and I should have known because the website describes the hotel as “vibrant”… We were moved for our second night to the top floor, which was much better (but was also Sunday night so I’m sure that played into it). The rooms themselves are a bit dated, and quite small. The air con in basically just a fan so rooms are very warm. We heard the flush in the walls every time upstairs flushed the toilet or used the shower. Floorboards very creaky. Bathroom fan didn’t work. Overall, can’t recommend. I’m grateful we were moved for the second night, but the first night was terrible. Maybe we were given a dud room at first, but the guy on desk specifically said that all rooms experience the same. Probably fine if you’re here for a stag do. If you come here at the weekend it’s a gamble.

We have everything right upon our doorstep so are the perfect choice for guests who do wish to be 'right in the thick of it'.I apologise with regards to the AC. This is something we are currently having replaced. 5 star location and staff 1 star accomodation
The hotel is really conveniently located for shops, food and entertainment being very central in a semi pedestrianised area. The staff were all really good and the restaurant area very welcoming. The rooms however were a massive disappointment. I understand this is a historic building and as such having a modern hotel in it is an achievement in preservation but the rooms were extremely small and starting to look like they were in need of major refurbishment. My room was on the inner courtyard part of the building, the window had a view of a wall with some electrical ducting and several armoured cables, look at an angle and you could see a few other windows with a similarly disapointing view (if you could see through the layer of pigeon poop) The bathroom area shower flexed when you stood in it, the sealant was mouldy and breaking away, there was dirt in the crevices of the sealant all over. The door of the bathroom had to be closed to get access to the toilet and shower. The console that housed the iron, ironing board etc looked and felt like it was about to fall off the wall. The air-conditioning sounded like a car alarm 3 streets away (it was 28 degrees C so needed to be on) with a constant oscillating whining noise. Turned the air-con off and you could hear the chillers in the inner courtyard of the hotel switching on and off all night. The bedding felt cheap and sweaty which in combination with the Air-con issue meant a very poor nights sleep.

Great location, very reasonable rooms, comfy bed, however - what seems to be a nightclub below had very loud music going on til the early hours which was heard more so in the loft foyer and when in bed. And depending on who you get on reception depends on if you get a smile. One lady on reception on our second day was so rude and uninviting

We chose to book Mercure for our romantic bank holiday weekend in Nottingham. But on our arrival the aircon unit was broken so the room was too stuffy or very noisy if you open the window. The ventilation fan in the bathroom was broken so bathroom air wasn't good after shower etc. The metres on the bed was awfully hard that I woke up with bad back pain. I honestly can't image how much run down this Mercure hotel has became. I rather stay elsewhere next time.
