Lovely refurbished hotel in a great location

Posted 28-Aug-2016
We had a great stay at the Saracen's Head in Beddgelert. The building dates back to tudor times but the rooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard. Our room overlooked the river and across to the mountain, which was a lovely view. Free parking and free tasty breakfast in the morning. Nice to be able to pop down to the pub for dinner as well, and despite having the pub downstairs, the rooms upstairs are very quiet. Only complaint would be the free wifi, which was unreliable and slow, and couldn't cope with both my boyfriend and I being online at the same time.

Lovely hotel in the middle of a beautiful village

Posted 10-Aug-2016
Location: There's a narrow-gauge railway nearby which is a must-do for our next trip, plenty of lovely walks and some good craft shops for souvenirs.
My husband's grandparents ran the Saracen's Head in the late 1960s, so this was a trip down memory lane for him. The building has been sympathetically modernised, using welsh slate, lovely welsh blankets and the overall effect is contemporary-country. Lots of cosy spots for us and our very welcome dog and lots of old photographs showing the history of the property kept us all happy. The room (number 3) overlooked the river and was spacious and comfortable - I slept very well. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and the food - especially breakfast - was great - we'll definitely return. Thanks to everyone for such a great stay.

Good hotel but could be excellent

Posted 17-Jul-2016 on Hotels
We had a great stay, the hotel just needs to concentrate on eye for detail, then it would be an excellent hotel. The staff were very friendly in general and sorted out all the challenges that we had e.g overnight fridge noise they turned this off for us, forgot to clean bathroom a couple of days, forgot to change towels. All this was sorted when mentioned. Food was good we eat there 6 days out of 7. Great location and rooms were very modern and spacious. We had a dog friendly room 10, which was a good room not the best but was large and spacious. We could not get wifi which actually worked out really well. Would I recommend the hotel, yes I would and I would return.

Full of promise but quite disappointing.

We checked in & had a somewhat mediocre meal in the restaurant, we got back to our room & found a pipe had burst. We were promptly moved to another room & were happy with the resolution. But then it was one thing after another- The room we had been moved to was booked the next night & we had to move again to a third room in our two night stay - we couldn't move in immediately so had to pack our bags and leave them in reception. I asked for a refund for at least one night but were told no (no explanation given). We were offered a 2 course meal & bottle of wine from the restaurant. Having already eaten there we weren't planning on doing so again but felt we had no other option. The food was better than the previous night & service was a little improved but it wasn't what we had wanted. The rooms are nicely decorated but lots of little problems with the sink plugs not working, kettles which didn't automatically click off when boiled (cue boiling water spilling over), you can hear a lot of noise from other rooms & the hallway light comes in through the gaps under the doors so you don't really get a dark room. Some staff were wonderful & their help was appreciated (one gentleman in particular tried his best to help), but overall management should rethink how they deal with situations like this, train their staff to avoid them being overwhelmed and do more maintenance on the rooms. All in all I doubt we would return to this hotel.

Pros: Rooms and Location
Cons: Staff in reception
A great hotel in a great location, the rooms were of a very high standard, but the reception staff was very disappointing and the hotel lacked atmosphere. The breakfast was very nice and our waiter Blad was very friendly and efficient.
