The housekeeping's of the hotel in general was perfect, clean, and comfortable to stay. We love the design and the decor of everything that we saw. "Front desk associate, Devon, was so polite and helpful. Everything was pretty much as I hoped and expected. From the somewhat uneven wide pine floors to squeaky doors and with hand hewn exposed beams in the lobby and common area, there was character at every turn. The grounds were well kept with views of a beautiful green field and a river across the street right from our room. I was happy to see two comfy chairs to view the TV before bed. I prefer watching TV from a chair rather than from the bed. We showed up at the inn’s dining room near closing and asked about just ordering dessert and coffee for which they happily seated us and brewed a fresh pot of decaf for us. The desserts were quite scrumptious as well. If you’re looking for quaint character, a rural setting with great service, this is the place for you. This location is very close to two major interstate highways of VT and NH, so it is very conducive for getting to attractions quickly. FYI, no elevator to the second floor so be prepared to bring your suitcase up a flight of stairs. Once again, this was exactly what I had expected, so I wasn’t disappointed. "

"I enjoyed my stay at the Shire. It’s an odd mix of comfort, luxury, bargain and practicality. The room was clean and comfortable, if a bit worn. I sprang for a river front room, which was an excellent idea. The deck outside my door was right off of the lawn at the edge of the water, and it was a delight to have the soothing water sounds outside. In better weather, you can use the fire pits and Adirondack chairs to create a cozy vibe at the water’s edge. The drawback to the waterfront rooms is that you have to navigate a steep, rough staircase beside the building. The hotel’s location just minutes from downtown Woodstock was perfect. I even walked comfortably to Billings Farm, one of the town’s major sights. Be careful about closures out of season — many restaurants and shops were closed while I was there. But there’s a grocery store across the street that has a deli and prepared food. There’s a nice park (a reclaimed landfill) almost next door, with natural playground equipment and a walking trail. I visited friends at a higher-end resort down the street; they had an onsite restaurant, but I think my setting at the Shire was nicer!"

"It was our second time at Hanover Inn and honestly really love everything about this place. Service was fantastic, employees really go above and beyond to make you feel like you are home. We look forward to returning the next time we are in the area."
