The hotel is in need of renovation, feels a bit old and out dated. However, we just needed a place to sleep one night before catching the ferry back to Norway the next day, and just for that purpose it was fine. Free parking, breakfast included and we could stay with our dog.
We got a room with a balcony door that led out to a small sitting area and some grass lawn that was perfect for the dog.
The room was clean, the out door area was not, it had some dirty ashtrays and was pretty sad.
There was some construction going on across the street from our room and work there started very early in the morning and was pretty loud, of course this was out of the hotels control but be aware of that.
We came late, around 22:00 in the evening, bit hungry but no food or snacks to be had at the hotel at that time or as a matter a fact in the whole village. Reception just laughed it off as a part of being in a small village, but would have been nice if they could have sold us some sandwich or even chocolate bars or something.
Would we stay here again? Well if you are in Hirsthals you are most likely taking a ferry to some place and you might need a place to stay one night before catching the ferry, and to be honest there are not many options there in the village. The Montra Skaga Hotel is fine just for that.
