It’s a great cultural experience. The setting is not for everyone, since almost everything is on the floor. But we enjoyed it and having a lot of fun taking pictures. It’s a 5 minutes walk from the Hell Valley and the shopping street. Some of the great trails to walk around the lakes and to the foot bath stream. Sulfur smell in the room was too strong from the hot springs. No one was very friendly and I just felt out of place staying here as an American. Buffet was just weird, not very good, and extremely overpriced. Staff was wonderful. Check in and check out was quick and easy. Room was spacious. The outdoor hot spring was excellent. The quality of the hot spring water was great. The hot baths were exceptional. There was a lack of restaurants in use for such a high quality hotel and the one in use had a very limited menu. There are 2 onsens, which rotates between men & women, if you are visiting, be sure to visit the onsens both in the afternoon/evening and the morning, you would not want to miss the big onsen! It was simply amazing, with outdoor onsen and a waterfall. Breakfast buffet was good. Dinner buffet was good, but you somehow expected a bit more. It's one of the best spa experiences I've had. You do have to strip down nude and if that is not something you are comfortable with, do not go for the spa experience. However, you can book a room with a bathtub that is big enough for two. I will say I was dissapointed with the dinner and breakfast at the Hotel and there aren't really any restaurants out that way. If you are only staying one night, I would bring food rather than pay a lot of money for a mediocre dinner. That being said it was one of the best things I did in Hokkaido.
