We are a Swiss couple and have been living in Newtowncashel on Lough Ree for several years. With the Barley Harbor Lodge we offer you the opportunity to get to know this pristine area in the heart of Ireland. There is a lot to discover. Here the pub is still heated with locally cut peat in the open fireplace and the locals are always open for a chat over a pint of Guinness or a glass of Irish whiskey. The house is in a very quiet location and is a 3-minute walk from the picturesque Barley Harbor on Lough Ree. Fishing, walking, cycling (signposted paths off the main road), golfing or just relaxing in the 2500 m2 garden around the house is possible. The lodge was built in 2003 in a typical Irish style with a stone facade and has high-quality furnishings. In the evening they enjoy the cozy warmth of the blazing fire in the fireplace. Comfortably read a book or watch a movie on the 32 inch flat screen TV. In addition to the Irish channels, you can also receive Swiss SF1, SF2 etc. as well as German channels such as ARD, ZDF, Pro7, RTL, VOX, Sat1 and many more. The house is also heated with central heating. All 3 bedrooms have double beds. There are two bathrooms available. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge and freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, filter coffee machine, ceramic hob / oven and washing machine. From the large oak dining table for 6 people you have a direct view of the well-tended garden. Due to its central location in the heart of Ireland, day trips to almost all of Ireland's famous sights are possible. Be it the Cliffs of Moher, a stroll through Galway, a drive through the charming landscape of Connemara National Park. Even an excursion to the famous Giants Causeway is possible. In an hour you can reach various beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. We have known Ireland for over 30 years and are happy to share our insider tips for excursions and sights with you. Dublin Airport is only 90 minutes away. Of course, the region is also very well known among anglers. For example, the World Championships in pike fishing take place on Lough Ree every spring. Nowhere is the chance for a meter of pike as great as here. In addition, the Lough Ree is no longer an insider tip for wild trout / brown trouts even among Irish. The May Flies hatch attracts anglers from all over the world to Lough Ree every year in May and June to experience the unique spectacle and the chance of a major brown trout. Of course, the Egli / Perch anglers are not neglected here either. This predatory fish is almost not fished by the Irish and the stocks in the lake or the tributaries are accordingly large. If you want to experience something different, you should take a trip on a fishing charter boat for deep-sea fishing on the Atlantic. We have contacts to skippers in Westport and Clew Bay and are happy to help with the reservation. Von dort aus hat man diverse Möglichkeiten zum wandern und besichtigen der Sehenswürdigkeiten (z.B. Athlon, Clonmacnoise). Mit der Bahn (nächste Bahnhöfe ca. 30 Minuten entfernt) fährt man gemütlich, günstig und pünktlich in die größeren Städte wie Dublin, Galway oder Sligo. Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind gut mit dem PKW erreichbar. Das Cottage bietet alles was man im Urlaub benötigt. Uns hat nichts gefehlt. Neben einer komplett eingerichteten Küche, war das Cottage tadellos sauber. Die Gastgeber haben uns sehr herzlich empfangen, alles erklärt und tolle Hilfestellung geleistet bei der Planung der Ausflüge. Nicht weit zur Atlantikküste, Ausflüge nach Sligo oder Galway, von dort eine Fahrt entlang des Wild Atlantic Ways nach Clifdon bieten sich an. Aber auch nach Dublin ist es nicht weit, bietet sich ebenfalls für einen Tagesausflug an. In der Näheren Umgebung gibt es einige schöne Schlösser und Parks zu besichtigen. Wir hatten einen erholsamen Urlaub in einem schön gelegenen Cottage, etwas außerhalb des nächst gelegenen Dorfes. Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet, bietet viel Platz, so dass wir uns auch an den Ruhetagen, an denen wir nicht unterwegs waren, wohl gefühlt haben. A beautiful house with all the amenities one might desire, comfortable beds, a cozy living room with a fireplace, and the stars are all alight from the back patio. Es ist an alle Dinge des täglichen Bedarfs gedacht. Eva ist eine sehr nette und hilfsbereite Vermieterin. Leider haben wir sie nicht persönlich kennengelernt. Aber ihr Sohn war immer gleich zur Stelle, wenn es Fragen gab und hat sich sehr nett um uns gekümmert. Die Lage des Cottage ist ideal für Ruhesuchende, die gerne mal abschalten wollen. Aber es gibt auch einiges zu sehen und zu tun in der näheren Umgebung. Von uns eine klare Empfehlung! ##### Martina v. We asked to stay an extra night and she was very accommodating. The property is about 15 minutes from the nearest town but it is very nice and quiet. A good escape to enjoy the Irish country side. We highly recommend this property for anyone looking to avoid the city. ##### Stephen R. We made trips from there to different sides of Ireland, like Dublin, Cliffs of Mohar and Galway. Within a two hours drive a lot of sightseeing can be done (although for Europeans is driving on the other side of the road challenging). The owner was very friendly and helpful which made our stay stay very pleasant. ##### Dirk E. It was beautiful inside and out, completely equipped with everything we needed and it made us feel completely at home. A wonderful fireplace added to the cozy feel and the quietness of the land around us made us totally relax. Eva, our hostess, was so kind to get us in last minute and then showed us all that it had (including a luxury coffee maker) and how everything worked. Wie zuhause. Es hat an nichts gefehlt, Waschmaschine mit integriertem Trockner, Kaffeeautomat, Fernseher, Kamin (haben wir bei dem guten Wetter nicht gebraucht) und alles was an Küchenausstattung gebraucht wird. Die Betten sind sehr gemütlich und die Gardinen reichten als Verdunklung aus. WLAN wurde gut genutzt, wie auch die Gartenmöbel. Das Haus liegt sehr ruhig und ohne Mietwagen wären wir aufgeschmissen gewesen. So konnten wir viel anschauen: Galway, Dublin, Cliffs of Moher, Tullynally Castle ... Es war ein entspannter Urlaub auf der grünen Insel und nur einem Tag mit ein bisschen Regen. Danke an Eva und Fredy für diese gemütliche Urlaubsunterkunft! ##### Birgit Z.
