Occasion - 50th wedding anniversary. Nice hotel (dark rooms to be expected in a Victorian property) with excellent staff let down by dining experiences. Breakfast disappointing - buffet breakfasts kept in metal tureens always difficult to keep warm and this was no exception, bacon, sausages, soda bread and wheaten bread all quite tough by the time we got to them. Simply not 5* standard. No coffee machines, so coffee had to be ordered from a waiter, making refills problematic. My wife's steak at JJ Farrells was extremely tough. She passed a slice to me. I concurred, unfortunately (broke the tip of my crown). Made sure we were first through the door as we had read about slow service. We were fine but those arriving immediately after us were still waiting for main courses when we had left.
