We stayed a The New Yorker for an event at Madison Square Garden. The location is very convenient for a quick walk to MSG as well as Hudson Yards and a great view of the Empire State Building. The rooms were smaller and dated however what stood out to me was the IMPECCABLE customer service and for that alone, I would recommend staying here. Upon our arrival, I mentioned we were in town for my daughter's birthday which was the following day. The gentleman at the front desk worked diligently to upgrade our room for my daughter's birthday and we really, really appreciated his efforts as well as the additional space / bathroom. Then on what was to be our last day, we decided we wanted to stay an additonal night. I called the front desk and the woman was as equally as helpful as the the gentleman I encountered during check in. They were booked and the room we had been upgraded to was not available for another night but she found us a room that was available to us to move into right away so we did not have to bring our luggage down to check for the day. I also had an issue with my keycard being too close to my phone and had to get it programmed to work again - the woman that helped me with that was just as amazing. Prior to our arrival, I had a cake delivered to the hotel and the went above and beyond to place it in the fridge. If there is one thing about staying here, you will receive impeccable customer service. The rooms are small and dated but their service cannot be beat

This was a great stay for us. Very convenient location, with the train to Newark and subway just across the street. Walking distance to Times Square. The hotel room was outdated, but comfortable. Very loud area however, so a bit difficult to sleep.

Marvellous lobby and public areas. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room big and spacious, very good for two people. Being so close to Penn Station is a major plus for convenient airport transfer. Will use this hotel again because of great location.

It's an older hotel but clean, which is important. Because it is older, you can hear a lot, such as people walking in other rooms and opening and closing doors inside their rooms. We loved that it was clean but were disappointed that there wasn't a mini fridge. Overall we enjoyed our stay and if the price was a bit shaper we would stay again.

Place is run down. Needs updating. Our room was loud. We could hear neighbors yelling, walking by, entire conversations in the hallway. Our room nightstand light would turn off on its own. The nightstand was missing a knob. Small, Inconvenient shelf in bathroom. Drafty window. Over priced stay. Charged us to check in early despite the room being already ready. Staff was amazing and welcoming!

The New Yorker is literally historic. Built 1929. so you have to go in with that mindset, but it feels like the hotel has never been renovated. The staff was mainly nice, welcoming, and knowledgeable. However the building needs the carpet replaced desperately. The halls smell like wet moldly carpet. The decor in the halls are so dated and lacking that upon the elevators opening to the floor you feel like you were teleported to a very cheap apartment. All the effort in decorations end in the lobby. The check in process was mainly simple but the desk provided mix information when my party of 4 checked into 2 separate rooms and it caused confusion. The plumbing is very old and expectedly sluggish but worse there is no ventilation in the bathroom. As a result, it felt like a rainforest with water dripping from the ceiling and was constantly damp soaking the floors. The price is for the history and the location. The location is amazing. Perfect midtown area next to Madison square garden. Easy walk to Time Square and shopping. If you care little about esthetics and most about location, this is a great option.

i have long liked this property for its convenience and art deco architecture. it is still both of those things. Sadly they’ve taken away some of the extra touches like bottled water and mini fridges. This stay did not feel as welcoming as in trips past.
