Yet, it is conveniently situated a few steps away from Jiufen old street. The hosts were welcoming and hospitable, offering a delicious Taiwanese-style breakfast. The room itself is clean, although the bathroom showed signs of age and use. Stood in the street in the rain for 20 minutes while a kindly local shopkeeper phoned the B&B owner who sent a surly youth over to let us in. The B&B is not located on a public road, but rather in a warren of terraced mews that no one but a resident could find. When we politely asked the young man if he could help some of our elderly with their luggage, he scoffed, and said “You’re on your own” and stalked off. We never did meet the owner, or anyone else for that matter. The place is clean, but spartan, the beds are comfortable.
