We had no problem checking in or out, and employees were friendly, professional, and helpful.
The room we stayed in was tiny, but clean. It would have been nice to have a dresser, as we were staying a full week, but I'm not sure it would have fit anywhere. The shower water stayed hot, and the water pressure was pretty good.
The room does not provide much protection from outside noises, and we were woken up around 2 am one morning to what sounded like someone getting evicted down the hall.
We didn't rent a car during our stay, and found the area very walkable. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to Bourbon Street and about 15 minutes to walk to Magazine Street. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to Café du Monde. Right around the corner is a place called Baroness on Baronne and I highly recommend it for food and drinks.
I was in New Orleans for a conference, which was at a different hotel (Hyatt on Lafayette). It was about a 10-15 minute walk to and from the Hyatt, leaving around 7 am and returning between 6 pm and 8:30 pm each day. I didn’t feel unsafe at any point of time walking alone.
The area was not, however, very wheelchair/scooter friendly. A lot of closed-for-construction sidewalks, broken ground, and uneven terrain. Sidewalks are narrow, poles take up room every few feet, and it can get pretty crowded. This seemed to be, more or less, throughout the city.
Overall it was a decent stay, and the hotel is reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area.
