Lovely Stay
Everything was as described. Great communication made this an excellent stay. There are so many lovely spaces and the kitchen is very well appointed for cooking. Super close to New Hope but you still feel like you're in your own oasis. The goats were great, ate some hay, and made barely a peep in the morning.

A Family Christmas Get-Away

Favorite hot tub experience. Awesome fireplace. Big refrigerator. Quiet! And there’s a giraffe in the backyard, trippin’ (lol!). The place could use a little TLC… easy & cheap to do: clear out guest closets, scale-down or redistribute the flatware to put less strain on the drawers, replace a burnt outlet in the hall bathroom, also hall bathroom where the hairdryer is stored, clean up the paint. Most expensive, flashing between roof & chimney as rain water was finding its way into the home sliding down to the hearth. Mid-expense, square ceiling patch in the living room.

We were a group of 9 that stayed at the Mountain House for 1 night. We had a blast and were impressed by all of the space, how private the location felt, and how well-stocked the home was. Many people commented on how they would like to come back for a weekend or week to enjoy more that the property has to offer. Would certainly recommend to others!

Property was terrific. Storm damage took out electricity but generator kicked in right away. Owner had electric company out within an hour and they restored power. Weather did not permit use of pool. Toys kept my granddaughter occupied. Goats were a hoot!

Great house for a crowd!
There was a good amount of space for our large extended family. The house is quite well built so that kids could be in the game room and weren’t bothering adults in the living room with noise. There were lots of activities for the kids and tons of games for them to play with, the house is a little on the old side, but was very clean and comfortable. The owner was super responsive to all communication and even came to the house shortly after I had texted him about the AC in part of the house not working (it turned out it was just a couple of vents that were closed.). I would highly recommend this house.

Family Vacation
We all had a wonderful time. The house was great, very welcoming and very comfortable. Many things to do and places to eat nearby. On the top of the mountain the surroundings were perfect, serene and calming. The pool and hot tub were crystal clear and provided a perfect ending to long days. Dave was a great host; he addressed any issues we had immediately. Definitely a great choice for a large group or family. We would book again. Thank you!

The time of our lives in a completely unique venue
I don't even know where to begin with the Mountain House because my words will never do it justice. I booked the home with my parents, wife, and our twin boys (13). We were visiting my brother and his family for his birthday and this was - simply put - a great place to hang out every day. The game room was stocked up and had a great pool table. The pool and hot tub were fantastic and surrounded by beautiful landscaping, and the house itself was absolutely FULL of character with gorgeous old hardwood floors and eclectic charm everywhere you looked. I couldn't tell you my favorite part of the property. Everything thing was my favorite part. The goats were hilarious - we tried bringing them carrots but they were more excited about the fresh leaves we pulled from the nearby trees! David was also a TOP NOTCH host and was always available. He also has the easiest checkout procedures I've had at a VRBO I can remember. The Mountain House is different, unique, and delightful. I will do all in my power to make a return trip. Oh, and don't forget to look for the giraffe in the backyard. 5 Stars across the board only because I can't give 6.

Weekend Birthday Celebration
We were celebrating a significant birthday with our children, spouses, and grandsons. The Mountain House fit the bill. The property sits atop a steep hill in a clearing surrounded by woods. While the exterior of the house is in need of work, the interior is well-maintained, spacious, full of art, books, games, and toys. The boys (1-7 y.o.) were well-entertained inside and outside. The kitchen is well-stocked and great for cooking large meals. It is an easy ride by car or bike into New Hope and Lambertville. While it is also a walkable distance, it is a bit treacherous on narrow roads with no shoulders. Price is just about right given the high value of the area.

The home feels like a home -- not like a sleek hotel lobby. We enjoyed the variety of rooms, different levels and things available for the kids. The kitchen/living space is great for hanging out preparing and enjoying family meals. The hot tub also got a lot of use -- especially nice on cold winter days! Charming Hidden Gem!
I recently stayed at the mountain house with my family of 15 people ranging from adults to children and infants for a new Hope Polar Express weekend. I could not tell you how perfect the house is! Its charm and uniqueness is tremendous. Everything about the house has a quality of genuineness to its character. There is plenty of room for everyone, and the amenities, from the fireplace, to the game room, the children’s toys to the goats, every time we thought we saw it all there was something more charming. The house and property are very well maintained, the house has character for its age and you can see all of the updates that are done to maintain it as a wonderful property. Also communication with David the owner was excellent…he was quickly responsive to anything we needed. I highly recommend this property to anyone with a large group, especially with children who wants to be close to all New Hope has to offer. We can’t wait for our return!

Bucks County, The Eclectic Mountain House... a treasure hidden away
This trip was a semi annual get away for 8 girls who visit each other from Alaska, Minnesota and all over the east coast. We pick truly unique getaways for relaxation and shopping. The Mountain House is a true gem. It is older and showing some wear, but the decor, painting, layout and outside area is amazing. It appears to be an artists lair with beautiful pieces in every room. The layout is spacious for large gatherings with an open floor plan and additional gathering spaces. The upstairs pink room and living space seems to have been remodled and is just lovely. The outside area is very nice with a pool, hot tub, plenty of land and goats in the front yard. Although the pool was covered for the winter, we did enjoy the hot tub which was user friendly and very clean. The kitchen is more than well stocked for cooking with a ton of spices available. There are plenty of paper products available. We had plenty of towels for showering, hot tubbing and for the kitchen area. The beds are comfortable and everyone said they slept well. The town of New Hope and Peddlers Village is a very short drive and was a unique shopping experience for everyone. There are plenty of restraunts, bars and things to do. We walked daily down the drive and into the surrounding neighborhood. The entire area is quite nice. The photos of the house really do not do justice to this unique home. John was very receptive to several little questions we had and responded quickly via the app. We had zero problems. The goats are most friendly and love veggie scraps. I would definitey rec the Mountain/ Goat house to large groups or small. I would also return with a different group of ladies to share this unique experience.

Great weekend getaway
We enjoy staying in this unique house in New Hope! The house was perfect for what we needed. Very cozy and eclectic style home. Some things were a little "dated" but it sort of adds to the charm of the house. Lots of toys for our toddlers to play with and plenty of room for the adults to have fun, too (pool table, hot tub, etc.). The host was responsive and helped fix things right away / answer any questions we had. The goats were an added bonus! And the location was easy to get to downtown New Hope, Peddlers Village and Lambertville.

Great for Kids and Everyone Else…
The pool and hot tub are well maintained and clean. We made a fire in the fire pit and used the grill for a BBQ. Swings were great for our two toddlers. House is fully stacked with useful entertainment/games/books for kids. Goats are friendly and very entertaining for the kids to play with during our stay. The property manager was so attentive to all of our requests! Great location as house is secluded, but ~10 minutes from everything including a farm, downtown, hiking, etc. highly recommend you stay here!

The home is spacious with good to excellent bedrooms. The master bedroom on the second floor seems newly redone and is very nice. The remaining rooms are older but professionally cleaned and reasonably kept up. The air conditioning is excellent. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and appliances, but there is not a full set of measuring spoons/cups. The home is full of curiosities: lots of books, a rocking horse, large children's blocks, a large doll house, etc. We contacted David, the proprietor, about a few things that needed attention and he was very responsive. We had fewer guests than we expected and David promptly sent us a refund for that portion of the payment. Home and property mainitenance are uneven, with some considerably below par. Most of the closets are cluttered and not easily used by guests. There is a new washer/dryer set in the basement, but the basement is filled with clutter. There is a small storage area off one of the bathrooms, where the circuit breakers are, that has standing water and many old cans of paint. The attached garage, where you are supposed to leave the garbage, is full of junk. There is an old motorcycle that someone has been working on and tools have been left on the floor as if someone were coming back shortly to work on it again. Outside, the spacious property is mowed and cut, but otherwise not well maintained. Former gardens and manicured areas are now weeds, some overgrown. Outdoor woodwork is old, weathered, and large parts are covered with some kind of green growth. An old swing set is filthy and not usable. There is an old, dilapidated tree house that guests are, aptly, instructed to use at their own risk. It is falling apart with the stairs detached from the tree house. The pool area is uninviting. The pool itself had algae growing in it, although this appeared to be a new occurrence. Outdoor umbrellas are old and ripped. With little exception, there is no furniture for lounging around the pool. The garden by the pool is overgrown by weeds. We did not spend any time at the pool although that had been a main attraction to the property when booking. The workings of the outdoor gas grill are rusty and falling apart, and barely got hot enough to cook. There is a makeshift firepit that is nothing more than a small uneven circle of rocks surrounded by cushioned chairs that are filthy. The hot tub looked clean even if it had some sand in the bottom of it. We did not use it.

As a group of 10 forty-something friends, we had a great stay at The Mountain House. The home had an eclectic cottage feel with many unique qualities. It was spacious, well equipped and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub and pool. The grounds are beautiful and private and the goats were very friendly. My kid and her friends rented this property for their after prom trip. They found it really fun - there was enough space, the rooms were relatively clean, and the amenities allowed them to take care of themselves. The location near several fun little towns also made it really fun for them, although they had to rely on Ubers to get around which did become pricey. Overall, if you like nature, charming stores, and a familial atmosphere, this house is perfect for you!

Not as Advertised, far from rental ready
We were deeply disappointed in the misrepresentation. This property is NOT as advertised. Let's stick to the facts: (Note: photos are available as backup, but no need to post them at this point) Photos of the property are very dated. The building suffers from 20+ years of deferred maintenance. Walls, furniture, and treatments are scuffed faded, torn and frayed. Linens are faded stained and decades old. Mattresses are worn out saggy and even older. Dilapidated outdoor wooden structures are held together with bailing wire and zip ties. Rotted wooden frames on all porch sliders render them inoperative. (Note: a number of faded masking tape labels that read: Does Not Open) The property owners recommend throwing bagged household garbage in the garage attached to the kitchen. This is true. There was 2+ weeks of garbage strewn on the garage floor when we checked it. Some of it was bagged. Water leaks from the utility sink provided a moist environment for smell, scum and mold. The Fridge was chock full of half used and long-expired condiments from renters or the former owner that USE BY Dates as far back as 2019. Duct tape labels on each refrigerator shelf invite the visitor to “Help Yourself" As if. There are rodents in the walls clearly audible throughout the house's bedrooms after dark. House has an infestation of stink bugs and wasps. Firewood is not provided. We did NOT expect it would be. (It's not cheap, after all) However, dead- fall branches have been brought out of the surrounding area onto the porch entryway with an intent to burn. Rotten wood= more bugs. The fairly new hot tub had a layer of scum around the rim that made using it a non-starter. Kitchen sinks drain directly onto the property out back. A warning sign cautions that a “French Drain” system is in place. Opinion The 30+ 5-star ratings are not to be believed. This account has been fluffed with bogus reviews. This property is not ready for rental at any price. Do not be taken in.

I’m incredibly sorry this family claims they were not satisfied with my home. I believe their plans had changed and they did not want to accept the refund policy. They were not honest about this. They had requested early check-in and a mid stay cleaning and I offered both free of charge. The day before arrival they informed me that they did not need the cleaning. They then arrived 48 hours late. Only two guests arrived and stayed for less than an hour. Many hours later they contacted me with a list of concerns all of which could’ve been remedied immediately by me. I offered to remedy the concerns and they insisted on a refund. I told them that if they cancel the reservation I would gladly except the refund as per the cancellation policy. They never canceled the reservation and they immediately threatened legal action and a bad review if I did not refund their money. I contacted VRBO and they encouraged me to try again to resolve the issues, the guest did not respond to my efforts to do so. VRBO told me they would be happy to find them more suitable accommodations and the guest did not respond to this offer either. All of my reviews are 100% genuine and valid. The few times there have been issues such as a loss of power due to a storm, or a issue with the pool or hot tub I have immediately responded and provided a solution while also offering the guest either an additional night or partial refund. These instances have been very few, and as my review rating shows all guests have been very satisfied with all aspects of the property. After realizing that they could not just demand a refund from VRBO without reason, these guests filed a charge back with their credit card company. VRBO and the credit card company found that the charge back was not valid and the case was resolved in my favor. It personally pains me to think that a guest was not satisfied with my home, which is why I have always gone above and beyond to satisfy the needs of my guests and to provide them with adequate compensation for their inconvenience.

This was a perfect home for our annual Womanfolk Weekend. This was our 24th year of all generations of the woman in my family gathering. The house was wonderful for our event. The house caters to people of all ages with history and many books for the adults along with a vast selection of children's books and toys. This was a really unique and wonderful place to stay. It's comfortable, has a beautiful outdoor space, has plenty of room for people to sleep, and was a great place to get away from everything else. Would absolutely stay again and recommend to others.
