The rooms are small and so is the TV. There are no lifts, the aircon is preset. The neighbourhood is far away from the city. The food in the restaurant was below par for all three guests. Hotel is clean, personal frindly. I was alone there, so i have the pool for me! Breakfast can be better, maybe, when more visitors are in the hotel they have buffet, i don\`t know. But for this price, it was really okay, all. As a backpacker, I decided to book this hotel mainly for 3 reasons; laundry service, free wifi and airport transfer (as it is close to the airport). The room in itself was a very nice size and the bed was comfortable. I also like the big terrace with the view over the pool area (although the windows were not sound proof and there was a wedding there during the day which made it hard to relax). When I arrived I asked about the laundry service which they told me I had to ask about in the morning. The next morning I asked the staff in the reception and they told me that the hotel didn't offer laundry service at all! They did however contact a laundry service place for me and sent my clothes away but when I got the laundry back later I had to travel to town to take out cash as the price was almost $50 for three bags of laundry and they wouldn't accept card! I also asked the staff about fixing me airport transfer, and they told me to wait in the reception at 10pm. When I arrived, they didn't understand that I had booked transfer through them and I waited for 45 minutes before they understood that someone was suppose to pick me up. They had simply forgotten to book med a taxi. Also, the wifi didn't work at all, except for in the restaurant. Some of the staff was very friendly, some was directly rude. It was part of my complimentary B & B package. The service staff are super friendly & very courteous. The local tuktuk charges approx SLR 200 to take one from this hotel to the beach area which has some good night clubs. The hotel is of course at very short distance from International airport. On Fri /Sat a live band plays in dining area & they are good. Staying at this hotel was an uncomfortable and disappointing experience. The hotel rooms are old with mold growing on the room walls and bathroom tiles. There was even a gaping hole in the ceiling of our room! Despite not opening the balcony doors of our room, the room was full of mosquitoes, and we spent two sleepless nights having to swat mosquitoes and hearing them buzz around our ears. We informed the hotel staff after the first night that the room needed cleaning, and when we returned, the sheets were not changed, and there were no fresh towels. After speaking to the front desk about the room, they promised to send someone to clean the room, but that eventually happened only after multiple reminders and an hour and half later. Even then, we noticed that the pillow cases were not changed, and the room was swept and not mopped ( you could see footprints on the floor). Breakfast was mediocre, and when we decided to order a Sri Lankan breakfast, the staff told us that we had to wait for an hour for breakfast to be ready. We also inquired about advice on visiting some of the attractions around town, and we were given false information by the reception which we only found out after hiring a driver to take us there. The hotel makes money from the wedding receptions that they have onsite, so be prepared to bear with loud drumming and music late into the night. Avenra Garden Hotel's was conveniently located 20min by taxi from the airport so we picked it. We didn't have much time to enjoy the hotel amenities but it fit what we were looking for! ##### Nadia
