However, the surrounding area was a major concern. There is an abandoned house directly next door, and during our stay, a homeless man started a fire inside it. The fire department, ambulance, and police all responded because they believed there was a deceased person inside. The overall neighborhood appears extremely rundown and resembles the projects. If this had been a summer trip, I likely would have stayed elsewhere.We also had an issue inside the home—my 10-year-old daughter woke up covered in ants. I immediately contacted the host. In fairness, they did offer to come spray and sent someone out, but since we were leaving the next day, I told them we would simply move her to another bedroom. What was disappointing was the lack of compensation or acknowledgement of how unsettling the experience was for a child. I asked several times about a partial refund or some form of compensation, but the only response I received was the offer to spray.
