Great hotel for the price. Staff was very kind. I would stay here again and recommend it. It is clean and comfortable.
Good basic hotel with laundry machines. Good neighborhood, walkable to all Nara attractions. Did not like the bedding material.
For budget Japan Hotels this place is actually fairly spacious. It's not the most comfortable but it's easy access to some of the top sights in Nara make it worth it especially for one night.
Hotel provides a well spread of traditional Japanese and Western breakfast buffet.
Free public bath nearby hotel but have to bring own towel. Thus, never bother to go and try out the public bath. Nearby Nara Park and shopping streets. However, about 20min walk from JR station if you are using JR pass. Check in and out process were easy and fast. There is a cosy reading corner at lobby level with free coffee n tea dispensers and foot massage.
Hotel is nicely situated, and close to all the local shops, restaurants, temples, and transportations (JR and Kintetsu). With Nara being one of my favorite cities in Japan, the Hotel Sunroute is exceeding my expectations. Will definitely go back.
I stayed in a single room, which was reasonably sized for Japan and a definite bargain for the price I paid.
The central shopping/restaurant street is a 7 minute walk and the Nara Kintetsu is 17min (with luggage).
Walking distance to all the main attractions.
Free coffee/hot drink dispenser in the lobby.
I received a single free pass to one of any 4 local onsen (hor water bath house).
The hotel is in a great location next to the Nara Deer Park. We could see the 5-story pagoda of the Kofukuji Temple from our room on the 5th floor. It is the second tallest pagoda in Japan at 50 meters. The front desk staff was very helpful and kind. One very nice woman told us of a special celebration happening the evening we checked in to the hotel. It was a rare event that celebrates the completion of the Kasuga Taisha Shrine that is torn down and rebuilt every 20 years. It was spectacular! The next day, she gave us an oragami deer for our 6 mo. old grandson. She also gave us a postcard of the hotel and some oragami Autumn leaves to take home. There is a coffee/tea/hot cocoa machine in the lobby that is available during set times and is free. The breakfast was very good. Both Japanese and Western foods were on the buffet. The only complaint is that there were bus groups at the hotel both nights and they were at breakfast before the opening time, so these groups got seated for breakfast first and others had to wait for 20-30 minutes to get seated..
Reasonably priced. Clean, comfortable. Building is modern and well maintained and managed. Did not notice any noise. About three blocks off the main street. Near the temple area. Within walking distance of train statilons. Sunroute is a chain.
good location, but an old hotel. it does not share the information of our deal from hotels.com. we almost lost our breakfasts. you clearly hear the noise of your steps from the room upstairs, and it disturbed your sleep.

Clean, well located hotel
It's a nice hotel, close to all the sides to visit. About 20 min walk from the Nara train station.
This hotel was in a great location. However, we had booked 4 non smoking rooms and all the rooms reeked of smoke. The carpets had large stains on them. The beds were as hard as rocks and the pillows felt like bags of ball bearings! We were seven women travelling together and we were all very disappointed. We later discovered that one floor above our rooms had recently been renovated (these were the rooms we had booked) but we weren't offered these until our last night so didn't bother to move.
The hotel advertised free Wifi - but this wasn't in the bedrooms, only in the lobby and we were only allowed 15 mins internet access at a time!
My wife and I enjoyed our stay here. The location is great for seeing the sights of Nara, albeit the beds are preset darn hard and we found them uncomfortable as we enjoy softer bedding.
Overall experience was good. The surroundings were limited in amenities but it is just behind nara park.
Do check the website you book on though. I booked a room which said maximum 2 pax but apparently hotel received only booking for 1to a room. They charge by pax and not by room. We were charged extra for the few rooms we booked.
The staff were very helpful and assisted us with the booking error and accommodated us.
It is not a far walk from the train station. And a number for food locations at the station.
Hotel Sunroute at Nara is a fantastic hotel for the price. I stayed there overnight in a single room. The room was small (typical by Japanese standards) but was clean and perfectly functional. However, the shower itself was quite cramped; if you are 6ft or taller - you might have to hunch down to get in. The hotel itself is very close to the Kintetsu-Nara station on the private Kintetsu line (they accept the Pasmo card, but you will have to get seat reservations on the Ltd. Exp trains) but the area is somewhat hilly and walking is recommended only for the able. Nara park/Nara museum are also nearby. The staff themselves were very helpful and they really went out of their way to help me. Overall, a very nice place to stay in Nara - I quite enjoyed it.
Room was very small for western standards, but ok in Japan: Bed 150 cm wide, desk with TV and fridge under TV, tiny bathroom, no extra floor space for working out. AC.
Wifi is very fast and free.
Clean.
Well cleaned every day.
Extremely helpful staff with so-so English.
Breakfast buffet was very good.
Good value I thought.

good location
Excellent location for sightseeing and 10-15 min walk from the JR station, 5 min from Kintetsu station. Very clean but dated decor from early 90s. Not as good value for money as Tokyo hotels but it is a small place with fewer hotels and lot of visitors so it is no surprise you end up paying more than in Tokyo.
Everything about the hotel was perfect except that my room was really too small for my comfort., especially on my arrival. But I began to overlook it by the second night there.
