We loved staying at the Two Dogs Inn! Very clean, cozy suite with all our necessities provided, hosts went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable! Beautiful + peaceful area, lots to do close by in Ladysmith (stores, coffee, etc.). Hosts were very welcoming and helpful with any extra things we needed, and any questions we had about travelling! We enjoyed our stay, and hope to return!

Great Place!

Beautiful Gardens
The property was as advertised. The hosts were warm, friendly and accommodating. There were wonderful touches throughout the suite such as bowls of chocolate, a welcoming vase of flowers and a fridge stocked with bread, butter, eggs, yogurt etc. I especially enjoyed the lovely garden, complete with a grape arbour seating area. Captain, the lovely dog, and the super friendly cat were the icing on the cake.

2 Dogs Inn
Valerie and Paul are wonderful hosts and now friends I will visit every time I am on the island. Their property is wonderful, the apartment is everything you could ask for, and it was stocked with some food and water and other necessities that you don’t ever see in a rental. Most of all, I enjoyed sharing time and stories with Paul and Valerie while Captain guarded us and the property. I had a wonderful stay and look forward to staying there again and visiting with the best hosts ever.

A quiet place to stay
Val and Paul are wonderful hosts and have their suite set up very nicely. They are very gracious and friendly and have numerous amenities including fresh farm eggs for breakfast! The barbecue came in handy as well!

A Vacation you will never forget
This Vacation let us for 3 weeks nearly forget our home, The fantastic hosts Valery and Paul are so good-hearted and friendly so that we hope to see them again. The accomodation was as well as described. We found all things we needed to feel well and home-like. The several things in the kitchen and the fridge where so valuable to bridge a gap. Located is the property that you can reach all interessting thing at Vancouver Island very easely. A very importend mentioning are the two housemates "Captain" and "Lucky" (Dog and Cat). Both are so very kind and complementary to the landlords that we never forget these faithful animals. We hope to see these four lovely guys again. Fantastic! Kind hosts, beautiful surroundings, warm sauna
What a wonderful, slightly off-the-beaten-track location on Vancouver Island! The hosts (and their two dogs) are some of the most welcoming and hospitable people. A well-stocked kitchen, a wonderful in-unit sauna, a warm and comfy bed, and all of it close to the charming towns of Ladysmith and Chemainus - what more could you ask for? We will surely look to stay here again next time we're in the area - thank you!

Our stay with Val and Paul was very enjoyable. We stayed one week and lacked for nothing. Fully equiped kitchen and a very comfortable bed. It is in a beautiful rural setting close to Ladysmith and many great trails. Highly recommended.

Val and Paul were great hosts. Very knowledgeable. The suite was clean and very well stocked with a variety of breakfast choices including eggs, yogurt, English muffins and cereals. Perfect in Every Way!
We had a wonderful week at Two Dogs Inn. Our hosts, Val and Paul, couldn’t have done anything more to make us feel comfortable, welcome and appreciated. Their beautiful dogs, Captain and Ruby, were happy to greet us every day (I’m sure it had nothing to do with the cookies they love so much)! The suite is large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. It was also stocked with many food and drink surprises! Two Dogs is in a peaceful rural setting yet just a short drive from Ladysmith and many beautiful and varied hiking trails. We’re so glad we discovered Two Dogs Inn!

Val & Paul have the gift of hospitality
Val and Paul did everything possible to make our stay a wonderful experience. The fridge was stocked with supplies and treats when we arrived. There was a beautiful yard look at as you sit under an arbour of grape vines with fresh grapes to nibble on. (Not available throughout the year🙂) Val even sent us off with a fresh loaf of sourdough bread! 😋

Excellent Spot!
This was a perfect space! We are traveling for our daughters wedding, and it gave us a bit of time away, to also give her some space. We totally loved the thought and details put into this space. It was excellent! Nothing missed. We had some downtime, and rest from road tripping and from business. Our three nights went too soon, and I wasn't ready to leave. The outside seating in the evenings was a perfect way for us to end our days and the doggie visits were fun. The space is quiet, private and spacious. There was everything we needed, and it was the absolute perfect respite for us, from our busy lives! Can't say enough!

Perfect place to relax and recharge
We enjoyed this perfect get away from our busy urban lives properly. The self contained suite is quiet and clean and provides for everything you need. The garden facing patio for private use offers lush, green views and, if you sit still, some hummingbirds show up and will greet you :) A lovely cove and beach, wonderful walks and the beautiful Nanaimo river are close by. Valerie and Paul are fabulous hosts and their dogs Ruby and Captain are fun to be with. This was the perfect place for us to stay and recharge during our one week holiday in the Nanaimo area.

Great hideaway near Ladysmith
The unit is the lower level of the owners home and is spacious and well equipped. Snacks and other modest provisions, kitchen supplies, comfortable seating and eating areas are provided indoors, and there is a wonderful shaded sitting area outside. Valerie and Paul are very generous and friendly hosts, and their two dogs are very simpatico with guests! The location is in the Yellow Point area and there are little beach parks around the peninsula, a great outdoor pub/restaurant (the Crow and Gate), and hiking areas (Holland Creek, Heart Lake) nearby. Not to mention Cafe Plantitude in town!

The unit is the basement suite of the host's house. It is located in a quite rural area a few kilometers from Ladysmith. It was very clean and well equipped and the hosts were very welcoming and accommodating.

A marvellous place to getaway
Paul and Val were great hosts, making sure everything was perfect, and chatting about plans and previous trips. They were assisted by Captain and Ruby, their Pyrenees Mountain dogs, who are the most friendly dogs even if they are quite large. The suite was spotlessly clean, well furnished, lots of space and being supplied with very fresh eggs was a bonus. We enjoyed being able to sit and eat outside everyday under the vine-covered pergola, and be visited by the two dogs.

GREAT STAY!
The accommodations were very clean, cozy and spacious. Kitchen was very well equipped and the extras that the owners provided such as fresh eggs, bread, snacks, etc. was very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. It was a great location. The backyard and deck was a great place to sit and relax. Val and Paul were great hosts. Last but not least, the two dogs Captain and Ruby and the cat Lookie were great to visit with. Definitely would stay there again the next time we are in the area.

Truly Lovely
Paul and Valerie under promise and over deliver! I just spent 2 weeks there and everything was so beyond anything I expected; especially for the price point. The suite is huuuuuge!!! And except for some occasional barking, it is super peaceful out there. They offer a private deck (adorned with grape vines) and a propane BBQ for guest use. And I looooved the dogs and the cat (Lucky Loukie).. You’re also about a 10 drive from Transfer Beach (beautiful!) and about the same distance from Nanaimo. As long as you like dogs (and are not allergic to them) I would highly recommend this place!!

Mike was so much fun to have as our guest. He arrived on time, and upon his departure Mike left the suite so clean and tidy, which is always appreciated. Our dogs loved greeting Mike at the gate, because he always had a treat in his pocket. The extra BBQ treats helped as well. We highly recommend Mike for any of his future stays. We really enjoyed this gem of a place with lovely hosts Paul and Val, or was it Captain and Ruby the two Pyrenees Mountain dogs. The cabin is well equipped and kitchen well stocked by Val and we wish we could stay longer to enjoy the rural setting and hospitality. We learned so much about the region from talking to our hosts and would like to be back some day.

We felt very welcomed by Val and Paul when we arrived and were given all the information necessary for a great stay. The apartment was very well equipped and comfortable, as well as being beautifully decorated. The yard and deck were great but the weather did prevent us from fully enjoying it. Captain and Ruby (the pooches) were lovely ambassadors! We really enjoyed these two great dogs! Thanks to Paul and Val for everything. You could not have been better hosts. Even when I tried to re-name one of the dogs and your favourite local pub, you were still totally gracious😊.

Country Comfort with Cowichan Convenience
The Two Dogs Inn is a property that I would return to in a heartbeat. The ground floor apartment is spacious, clean, comfortable and was wonderfully cool during a week when temperatures soared into the mid thirties. The private grapevine covered deck with a view of hills and the property’s beautiful market garden was a bonus. I spent many a late afternoon with a glass of wine and a book out there. The owners have two beautiful, friendly Pyrennees dogs. As a dog lover, I enjoyed the opportunity to interact with these beautiful animals. What really made my stay memorable were the hosts, Val and a Paul. They ensured that I had everything I needed including fresh eggs, coffee, cream and many goodies. They provided helpful information about the area and we enjoyed several conversations about travel and the area while sitting on the deck. The property is located in the quiet country across the bay from Ladysmith and a few minutes from a lovely private beach. It was convenient to the Island highway which made travel in the Cowichan Valley easy. There is a lovely theatre in Chemainus as well as the murals. Ladysmith has a historical street with an amazing kitchen store. The wineries and farmers markets in Duncan and Cedar were easy drives. Qualicum Beach and Cathedral Grove is also an easy drive. The area has many hiking trails and easy access for kayaks. Ladysmith is also close to the airport and ferries in Nanaimo. I would definitely stay at the Two Dogs Inn again. The hospitality of Val and Paul and the comfort and convenience of their beautiful home will bring me back.

Our piece of heaven
This was our first foray into VRBO. FABULOUS! Great space with sauna and large living area to enjoy evenings and morning coffee and a deck outside to sip some wine and visit the furry friends. The attention to details made this stay fabulous. The warm welcome from the hosts, the farm fresh eggs in the fridge, the snacks, water, coffee, etc made this the best experience, The accommodation was beautiful and clean. Just like home. The hosts made amazing recommendations for local dining and activities. Staying here is a MUST!

This is such a lovely, peaceful place to stay. Val and Paul are super nice people and wonderful hosts. And the cats and dogs were a fun bonus! The apartment is very comfortable and has absolutely everything a person needs. It was also more spacious than I expected from the pictures. The bed was super comfy and the place was very clean. There was fresh eggs and everything a person would like for breakfast and all sorts of snacks and goodies which was a big surprise. We only get to Ladysmith every year or two but know we will automatically book here again. We loved it here.

A wonderful place to stay. Roomy and comfortable. Convenient for seeing the places we wanted to visit. Valerie and Paul were extraordinary hosts; freely shared suggestions, directions and hospitality. Hope to return there one day. Felt right at home.

I wish there were more than just 5 stars. Edith and her friend Loretta were such amazing guests in our home. Paul and I loved our visits with you both. We can’t thank you enough for leaving the suite in perfect ( if not better ) condition. It truly was our pleasure to host you both. Even though it was a short stay, we look forward to having you return again one day. Arrived as a stranger left as a friend, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Home away from home.
An awesome place, a fridge full of food and drinks, Val and Paul are amazing hosts, we loved the two gentle Pyrences dogs. The two dogs inn, is a great relaxing place to stay! We hope to be back again! Puck & Chris Biesheuvel. May 01 2018

Thanks for a great stay
My wife and I needed accommodations in Ladysmith for 3 nights in December. We were so happy to find this rental vs. a local motel in town. The suite is lovely, very well kept and clean. Val and Paul provide you with coffee, snacks and other goodies which we really appreciated. I'd recommend this vacation rental.

Wonderful!
The apartment is spacious and very comfortable, and includes a sauna for warming up after a day outside! Hosts generously provided fruits, fresh eggs, yogurt, all kinds of food and beer, and local magazines. A wonderful place to stay near Ladysmith!

Sooooooooo at home there!
The hosts were genuine and warm and their place was welcoming, clean, comfortable, spacious, and so well-appointed with everything we needed and more. Just the perfect mix of beautiful customer service while still affording us the freedom to come and go as we pleased. The fridge was stocked with farm fresh eggs and other essentials, and I could see from the guest book that they're generous with their garden produce in the summer, too! Too bad we were too late in the year for the tomatoes everyone raved about. And we were so busy with friends and family that we didn't have time for a real get-to-know-you visit with our hosts. But .... we hope there'll be a next time, and we'll build in more time for just relaxing in that beautiful setting!!

This place and the surroundings are amazing!
Paul and Val are great hosts! After making a pinhole projector to view the 8/21 eclipse from a motel parking lot, surrounded by an international crowd in North Vancouver BC, we boarded the Coastal Renaissance BC Ferry in Horseshoe Bay bound to Departure Bay in Nanaimo. Stopped at the grocery store (Thrifty Foods in Nanaimo) to stock up knowing we had a kitchen. No need to it turned out! Thanks Paul and Val for such a well stocked kitchen and garden (sweet corn was amazing). Such a great space to relax in. Elliot's Beach was a favorite spot just down the way to take a picnic lunch, swim, watch boats come and go, etc. One highlight (of many) was a route Paul told us about from Duncan to Lake Cowichan to Port Renfrew (paved logging road). Botanical Beach and Sombrio Beach are just amazing natural wonders! Paul told us about the rescue trail (now called the Juan de Fuca Coastal Trail) along that coast that was created because of all the shipwrecks on that rugged coastline. The trail goes from Sooke way north (many backpackers). The Crow and Gate Pub on YellowPoint Road is a must. Being there on a frigid night (ours was clear and balmy with a new moon so we sat outside) with a fire roaring would be nice and cozy while enjoying a Guiness! Lake Cowichan swimming also high recommended. Ruby and Annie (the dogs) are amazing creatures as is Logger the old cat. We hated to leave but the place seems popular! It actually reminded us of our many visits to Salt Spring Island BC (the coastal road in, the little harbors and boats, the views, the cobblestone beaches, etc.).

An Oasis – quiet, private, amazing hosts, beautiful gardens and wonderful dogs
Where to start and when to stop describing this beautiful property with such amazing hosts, peace and quiet all round, relaxing and restful, and the most dogs imaginable. We came as strangers but within an hour it was as if we were family or best friends for our lifetime such was the welcome we received. Val and Paul went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect, offered great advice, allowed us to walk Annie and Ruby (the gentlest giants we have ever encountered, so well behaved and so loving). The suite was so private, so spacious, so tastefully decorated and so well equipped – nothing was left to chance. The fresh organic eggs in the fridge (oh so delicious), and the lovely fruit and everything we needed for our stay was provided. Our only regret was our stay was too short. Sitting out on the deck in the beautiful garden with the dogs at our feet, Lager on our laps and the humming birds coming and going to the feeders – could life get any better. There are beautiful walks all round and the fabulous Elliot Beach just down the road. With the great road network on the island, you are within easy reach of everywhere and so much to look forward to when you return home at night. We learned so much about the Island and the First Nation People from Val and Paul. This is definitely an Oasis that we will love to return to again. Thank you Val and Paul for sharing your wonderful home with us and making us feel so special. We warmly recommend you to all who are considering visiting Vancouver Island.
