World-class diving, spectacular beaches, challenging hiking trails, and friendly locals await on the third largest island in the Yasawas.

Nacula Island is renowned not only for its pristine beaches and lagoons, but also its rolling hills that offer plenty of hiking trails with incredible views. The snorkeling and diving on Nacula is some of the best in Fiji, if not the world. Deserted, white sand beaches roll into the clear blue waters teeming with sea life. Look out for the sea turtles, which share the water with hundreds of brightly colored fish.

There’s something for every marine-life lover. Adventurous types can join a dive class and venture into deeper water. Beginner courses are available through dive centers and some resorts. Small boat charters are organized at most hotels and will take you to the many “secret spots,” such as underwater caves further out on the reef.

Be sure to pull yourself away from the beach and head into the rolling hills covering the island for a while. The extensive walking trails offer panoramic views of the island and reefs, with some peaks over 656-feet (200-meters) high. These trails link the island’s communities. Wander down to the local villages where you’ll find school kids who are always happy to “high-five” and say hello.

Stay for a few days to really appreciate the island’s beauty and daily rhythms. Accommodation options range from camping and backpacker-style dorm rooms, to exclusive resorts and hotels. Oarsman Bay is a locally owned resort located on one of the island’s best beaches and is close to the village of Nacula.

Nacula Island is located about 55 miles (90 kilometers) off Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu. Nacula is one of the larger islands in the Yasawa Island chain, stretching over six-miles (10-kilometers) long and two-miles (three-kilometers) wide. It’s accessible by fast catamaran, seaplane and helicopter.
