Not the best place to stay
Needs up grades there was and old tube t.v. in my room and no microwave had to ask for more toilet paper because they only give you one and had to ask for more towels we stayed there for 2 days for a wedding in town. I wouldn't stay there again should of stayed at the Super 8 down the street for a couple dollars more other family members stayed there and they said it was nicer.

Don't trust negative reviews
We were reluctant due to negative reviews about noise and other things but we are so glad we stayed here! The room was huge with awesome shower pressure. A microwave and mini fridge came with our room. Staff was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend eating at Casa Sorento which is walking distamce. For the price you think it's a dive but it could charge double and still be worth it. The bed was comfortable, we didn't hear outside noise, the property is very well lit at night with tall palms to make the curb appeal inviting.

Dirtiest room ever
This was the worst room I have ever seen. There were stains on the carpet and bed. The table hadn't even been wiped off. I barely made it through the door before I turned around and left. I didn't even bother with a refund. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Avoid at all Costs
Upon booking this hotel on Expedia, the pictures looked great as if it were a nice place to stay for just one night while in town. Boy were we wrong. We walked into the rooms and immediately felt bamboozled by both Expedia, and the hotel. I immediately took pictures of the hotel, as seen below, the rooms were not by any means anything that we saw on the pictures that helped us make a decision to book here. Everything was outdated, dirty, and looked as if it weren't touched for maintenance in years. Expedia must not have done their job to go verify that the pictures were accurate, we would have never chosen this place. If at all possible, avoid this place, you will thank yourself that you did. We immediately asked for a refund.

Not charming, just travelodge
Don't be fooled by the name "Steinbeck lodge", this is just a Travelodge... and not a great one. No breakfast despite promised, no Wi-Fi either, & cold shower! The heater was not working in my room and even though I was the only one staying there, they were hesitant to switch my room. But they did, still no wifi...Shabby room, but comfy enough, although I would recommend saving 15 bucks and just staying at the Motel 6 down the rd. Ive stayed there, it is better. The only real plus to this travelodge is that you can walk to downtown.

Not horrible for a one night stay
The hotel had great service, but you can tell that the hotel itself has seen better days. But if you are just needing somewhere sleep for one night I would use recommend it, I would not recommend for an extended stay.

I guess you get what you pay for. But this motel wasn't clean at all. It was obvious that the rooms are not cleaned properly and in my opinion that is the most important thing about a motel. Here that wasn't the case and you can't really enjoy the stay when you are disgusted by the room.

This is the place we stay in salinas. if you are on a budget its worth it. the room is very big and although the outside isn't the greatest the rooms are spacious and bathrooms are clean. definitely worth the $$ you pay if you need a good place just to stay the night.

Salinas Sucks....
Salinas and Castroville sucks. We were forced to stay in Salinas due to the AT&T golf tournament during the Presidents / Valentines day weekend. We were heading to Monterey Bay Aquarium. Hotel service was decent except for the following listed items. Toilet paper was folded nicely but was a used roll (Thats gross), sink could of been cleaner. The coffee maker was crusted with lime and I had to clean it my self. The breakfast sucked. The waffle mix could of been better. Also the waffle maker was not clean enough. Would I stay here again? Yes but again its in Salinas. The heck with Salinas...

Second time staying here. Only complaint I have, is that we left for dinner. Coming back, there was no parking. We had to park in the neighborhood down the street. There was a party being held in the room next to us. So I'm assuming their guests took up the parking :( Other than that, things were fine. Will be back!

The receptions was very friendly and he got to recommend us points of interest. Over all, It was okay for just one night, but i think they need to improve a little bit in maintenance.

The bed was terribly uncomfortable. Woke up with back aches each morning. It was definitely affordable but wasn't worth it. I would pay the extra money to stay in a nicer room if for nothing else that to get a good nights sleep.

So what should be expected from a Travel Lodge? Not much. No frills or frazzles. First, our room must have been smoking, although I reserved non-smoking. The room stank bad. The towels had dirt stains on them. I didn't even want to use them. The bed was like sleeping on plywood. I wasn't expecting much, but for the price in Salinas, really? Way over priced. I also had reserved a second room for additional family, and that one was a non-smoking, but still smelled bad.

2014 USTA M4.0 Sectionals Oak Park Team
Our tennis team from Stockton, CA qualified for Sectionals (USTA Mens 4.0) held at Carmel Valley Ranch, Pebble Beach and Carmel Valley Athletic Club. 3 members of our team shared a room with 2-queen beds. The hotel attendant provided us an extra bed for free for 3 days. The room is equipped with free wifi, a microwave, small fridge and coffee maker. The hotel is about 25 to 35 mins drive to our tournament locations. Will definitely book at this hotel in the future.

The staff is courteous, helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and clean. Quiet too, which we liked. We were moving my son to college, this hotel was reasonably priced and easy to get around.

Needed Room for a Tenant & his family
When I booked the room it was the ONLY room available for the time I needed. There was a plumbing problem with my tenants home and so I needed a place for them to stay. My tenant said they only stayed the one night out of two because they all woke up itching from head to toe - when they said something to the desk clerk she told them that was the only room she had and that there was nothing she could do for them - at that point he gave her the card keys back and said they would not be using the room again because of the itching problem and that his daughter had asthma and had been coughing all night. She told them there would be no refund because it was their choice to leave.

It's kinda away from major attractions, but it's half the price of Monterrey hotels (that's where I had the conference and an actual purpose of trip, so I dodn't have much time to explore Salinas) and it just takes half hour to get to Monterrey. For that you have the free always available parking and a nice comfortable room. Breakfast is poor: coffee, juice, waffles and bagels. But the room has the fridge and microwave. We went to Safeway, which is 3 miles away, and got all we needed for a wonderful breakfast.

Underhanded business practise
As advertised, a rollaway bed was $10US per night...at the time of checkout, and after only having the rollaway bed for 1 night (and returning it the following morning), we were charged THIRTY ($30US)! after complaining to the desk clerk, the owner/manager was summoned but refused to budge on the $30US gouging...I have a receipt for paying it but I can assure you, never again.

It's just a Travelodge
Some people need to lower their expectations. This is a 50 year old motel in a blighted farming town. True the towels are thin and scratchy, because nice towels get stolen. It has several maintenance issues, but it was clean and quiet. The breakfast room is small and the selection is limited, but they had waffles, cereal, toast, juice, and coffee. If that doesn't suit you, there's a nice diner just up the street that has an average weekend breakfast buffet for $15. If you go to Salinas during the Laguna Seca races, expect to pay three times the normal rate. A short drive north to Gilroy or south to Soledad will be more affordable.

This Travelodge was ok. Breakfast was pretty good, nice selection and had waffles. Sheets and room was clean. The bathroom could of used some work, tub had a crack in it and the towels were not clean. If the towels were clean and the bathroom a little cleaner it would have been great.

The motel room was nice and it was clean. There was a dirty stained towel left in the room for a clean one. It was convenient for our needs. The breakfast was good.

Not a good experience for us. Right away it was apparent the room was not clean. There was debrit on the carpets and hair and dirt on the bathroom floor. And to top it off, my wife noticed three hypodermic needles up in the lights above our sink. How the housekeeping staff missed that is beyond me. The front desk staff was good about moving us to a different room but was very displeased with the lack of cleanliness. Would not recommend this location to anyone.

The first room that we checked-in smelled strongly of mold, it was not vacuumed, there was dirt gathered around the legs of the beds, the side table was dirty and sticky, the carpet was coming off of the base of the floor, one of the pictures was missing above one of the beds, the bathroom had mold around the bottom of the door way. I went to change the room to which I was told there were no other rooms available unless I wanted to upgrade. After talking to the person on duty for a while he found another room for us. This room was in a better condition and did not smell of mold, but over all was almost as bad. I do not see myself ever staying at Travelodge again.

Toilet and the Tub were backed up. When I contacted the front desk, they sent me a plunger and told me to fix it myself. The bathtub curtain was torn.The wash sink faucet was corroded.The breakfast had no protein based items such as yogurt or eggs. There were tea bags but no hot or cold water. When I contacted the manager thru Hotels.com to report about these complaints, the first time, he said he will call me back but did not. When I called again, he told hotels.com that there is nothing that he is willing to do to resolve this. His attitude was of no concern for customer service and no care about his facility reputation. He is running this hotel below what is expected from the TRAVELODGE franchise.

At least the sheets were clean. This is an older motel and is showing its age badly. Doesn't look like it's received any/or no "love." A friend stayed across the street at [name omitted] and had a very different experience.
